The Director of Resident Life is responsible for enhancing the intellectual, social, spiritual, and emotional well-being of residents by providing a diverse range of meaningful and engaging recreational opportunities. This role supports the ongoing enhancement of programs, encouraging resident participation in activities that promote personal fulfillment and community connection. The Director oversees the coordination and delivery of comprehensive services for Residential Living residents, including orientation and transition support, social work, life enrichment activities, and transportation services.

What You’ll Do as an LVMG Director of Resident Life:
- Serve as a point of contact for residents, maintaining an open-door policy and addressing personal concerns in a timely, respectful manner.
- Monitor and report changes in resident condition or behavior, coordinating with leadership for additional care needs.
- Support resident transitions (e.g., hospitalizations, vacations) and maintain accurate whereabouts records.
- Oversee bulletin boards, daily activity updates, and beauty shop services to ensure quality, cleanliness, and safety.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate a diverse calendar of activities, including entertainment, education, wellness, spirituality, and cultural events—available seven days a week, including evenings as appropriate.
- Oversee the development of Wellness Center programs (e.g., fitness, aquatics, cognitive wellness, fall prevention).
- Encourage active resident participation and tailor programs to individual interests and needs.
- Welcome new residents, coordinate orientation, assign parking, and introduce them to neighbors and available services.
- Support residents and families through life transitions and challenges, providing guidance and referrals as needed.
- Assist in developing and distributing resident communications, including the Resident Handbook and regular updates.
- Supervise all personnel in transportation, wellness, and assigned departments, including hiring, training, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions.
- Facilitate staff scheduling, conduct departmental meetings, and foster a positive, professional work environment.
- Promote interdepartmental collaboration and effective communication.
- Lead the Resident Response Team (RRT), manage related documentation and meeting schedules.
- Maintain resident confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA, safety protocols, and organizational policies.
- Support and implement resident rights and uphold a culture of dignity, privacy, and respect.
- Prepare, monitor, and manage the departmental operating and capital budgets.
- Approve purchases and evaluate monthly financial performance.
- Ensure cost-effective delivery of services while meeting resident needs.
- Represent the organization on community committees and with external partners.
- Identify opportunities for program innovation and continuous improvement.
- Encourage staff participation in professional development and continuing education.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications
What You’ll Need as a Director of Resident Life:
Education | Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Gerontology, Health Administration, or a related field required.
- Active professional licensure, as required by state regulations, must be maintained in good standing.
- Minimum of five years of experience in a long-term care or retirement community setting, including at least three years in a supervisory or management role.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment in handling sensitive and confidential matters.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively and tactfully with individuals at all levels, including residents, staff, families, external vendors/authorities, and the public.
- Strong attention to detail in writing, proofreading, managing priorities, and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment, demonstrating a cooperative, respectful, and compassionate approach to colleagues and resident care.
- Skilled in the use of standard office equipment and technology.
- Maintains professionalism, composure, and a positive attitude when managing challenging situations.
- Physically able to move throughout the workday and lift items up to 10 pounds using safe handling practices.
- May be necessary to assist with resident evacuation during emergency situations.
- Complies with organizational health and safety requirements, including vaccination policies or valid exemptions.
