The St. James is seeking a Maintenance Technician to join our team at The St. James Performance Club in Bethesda, Maryland.

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the safety, functionality, physical condition, and overall appearance of the facility. This position performs daily maintenance activities, including interior and exterior upkeep, timely completion of work orders, preventative maintenance, and inventory management.

Schedule

This is a part-time position scheduled for approximately 20–25 hours per week based on business needs. Evening and weekend availability is required. The schedule may vary from week to week depending on club operations, member needs, and business demand.

Compensation

$25.00–$30.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Diagnose and perform routine and minor maintenance and repairs in a timely and professional manner

Complete service requests daily and accurately document all work performed, including parts used

Follow up on incomplete work orders to ensure timely resolution

Maintain positive and professional relationships with members, guests, vendors, contractors, and team members

Inspect facility spaces daily using checklists and communicate repair needs to management

Ensure all spaces are maintained to company standards and prepared for daily operations

Perform daily building and common area upkeep

Execute assigned preventative maintenance programs and maintain accurate records

Order parts and supplies while maintaining organized and cost effective inventory

Maintain engineering and maintenance areas to company standards

Support facility events and special projects as assigned

Janitorial and maintenance functions include:

Minor repairs to HVAC, plumbing, ventilation, and electrical systems

Monitoring building security and safety, including locking procedures and hazard prevention

Moving furniture and equipment as needed

Minor landscaping and exterior upkeep

Snow removal and application of snow melting materials during winter months

Responding to emergency maintenance needs as required

All work must be performed in compliance with company safety standards, OSHA regulations, and applicable health codes.

Organizational Relationships

Reports directly to General Manager. Works closely with the On Site Manager, maintenance team members, contractors, vendors, and department leaders to support operational excellence.

Qualifications

General maintenance experience required

Working knowledge of light carpentry, plumbing, and electrical systems

Strong understanding of safety procedures and safe work practices

Dependable, organized, and able to meet deadlines

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Ability to flex schedule to accommodate evenings and weekends

Professional communication skills

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Ability to kneel, crouch, climb, crawl, and reach as needed

Ability to work in varying indoor and outdoor temperatures

Ability to safely operate required tools and equipment

Tools

Must provide own basic hand tools or be willing to obtain them. Must be knowledgeable and skilled in the safe use of:

Hand Tools

Various wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, saws, snips, grips, and similar tools

Power Tools

Drills, grinders, sanders, saws, and related equipment

Material Handling Equipment

Dollies, hand trucks, ladders, jacks, hoists, and similar equipment

Transportation

Reliable transportation required.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required. Trade school experience preferred. Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
