About this role

Tesla is seeking a Sr. Test Engineer to own manufacturing test equipment for Megapack production. You will deploy, sustain, and continuously improve electrical, software, and controls systems that keep Megafactory lines running at rate, yield, and quality. This is a high-ownership role in one of Tesla’s fastest-growing manufacturing organizations — you will debug live production issues, drive OEE, and shape the next generation of test equipment.

Own deployment, sustaining, and optimization of manufacturing test equipment on Megapack production lines  Design electrical and mechanical hardware for production test systems used on battery and high-voltage assemblies  Debug electrical, software, and controls issues on the line; drive root cause and permanent corrective action  Lead OEE improvements, including uptime, cycle time, first-pass yield (FPY), hardware reliability, software fault reduction, and maintenance strategy  Investigate battery electronics assembly and subassembly failures; translate findings into better coverage, fixtures, and production metrics  Optimize production test software to improve coverage, cycle time, and operational efficiency  Use production data to identify equipment risk early and advocate for solutions aligned with rate, yield, and quality goals  Partner with Manufacturing, Process, Quality, Maintenance, and Product Design to set test specifications that balance yield and quality  Prototype quickly when gaps appear — fixtures, instrumentation, software, or test methods  Document designs, procedures, and changes so equipment can be sustained across shifts and sites

Degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience  6+ years developing, deploying, and optimizing manufacturing test equipment  Proven ownership of test-equipment OEE (uptime, cycle time, FPY) in a high-volume environment  Hands-on experience with high-voltage test and automation systems, production machinery, industrial sensors, data acquisition, safety circuits, and I/O devices (e.g., pogo pins, pressure transducers, temperature controllers, current/power meters, PLCs)  Familiarity with high-voltage power electronics and battery systems  Demonstrated expertise to read, debug, and modify production test software (Python, Go, LabVIEW, C, C++)  Experience working with common communication protocols such as CAN, Serial, Modbus, SPI and ability to interpret traces  Experience with Linux operating systems, familiarity with Linux Ubuntu distributions, and owning code in Git or another version-control system
Experience with industrial communication protocols (CAN, serial, Modbus, SPI) and interpreting traces Ability to operate under pressure, prioritize competing line issues, and support 24/7 manufacturing as needed
