Responsibilities Include:

Technical Leadership
•    Develop geothermal well concepts, design bases, functional requirements and well delivery strategies for production, injection, monitoring and make-up wells.
•    Prepare and assure well designs, including casing and cementing programmes, tubular selection, wellhead and tree specifications, completion design, drilling fluids, directional plans and barrier philosophies.
•    Define design loads and operating envelopes considering pressure, temperature, thermal cycling, corrosive fluids, scaling, gas content, geological uncertainty and anticipated well life.
•    Develop drilling, completion, testing, stimulation, workover, intervention, integrity management and abandonment programmes.
•    Undertake or review casing design, hydraulics, torque and drag, well control, cementing, thermal stress, materials selection and well integrity calculations.
•    Specify well testing, injectivity and productivity testing, pressure-temperature surveys, production logging, fluid sampling and well clean-up requirements.
•    Integrate geological, geophysical, geomechanical, reservoir, geochemical and drilling information into well design and delivery decisions.
•    Provide well performance and operating inputs to reservoir, steamfield, gathering-system and power-plant design.
•    Lead or contribute to well risk assessments, HAZID, HAZOP, DWOP, peer reviews, technical assurance reviews and design-stage gate reviews.
•    Ensure that well designs comply with applicable legislation, recognised industry standards, client requirements and good international geothermal and petroleum industry practice.
Project Delivery
•    Act as the client’s wells engineering focal point across FEED, detailed design, EPC/EPCM, Owner’s Engineer and drilling-contractor interfaces.
•    Prepare and review well engineering philosophies, design criteria, technical specifications, scopes of work, calculations, drawings, drilling programmes and contractor deliverables.
•    Review drilling contractor, rig, wellhead, casing, cementing, directional drilling, logging, testing and specialist service tenders.
•    Support technical bid evaluations, contractor selection, procurement recommendations and clarification of technical deviations.
•    Develop well cost estimates, basis of estimates, drilling schedules, material take-offs, equipment lists and well delivery risk registers.
•    Monitor contractor performance, design changes, non-conformances and technical queries, ensuring that risks are appropriately assessed and controlled.
•    Support rig selection and acceptance, equipment readiness reviews, drilling start-up, wellsite operations, testing, commissioning and handover where required.
•    Review daily drilling reports, operational performance, well incidents and lessons learned, and recommend corrective or optimisation measures.
•    Coordinate interfaces between wells, subsurface, reservoir, geoscience, geochemistry, process, mechanical, piping, civil, electrical, instrumentation, HSE and project controls disciplines.
•    Support due diligence, independent technical review, investment decisions and lender or investor assurance for geothermal developments.
•    Communicate complex well risks and design decisions clearly to clients, project teams, contractors and non-technical stakeholders.
•    Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical quality, knowledge sharing, continuous improvement and business development.

Knowledge and experience will include the following: 
•    Typically 8+ years of relevant wells, drilling or completion engineering experience, including substantial experience associated with geothermal, high-temperature, petroleum or similarly demanding well environments.
•    Demonstrable experience developing and assuring well designs through feasibility, concept selection, FEED and detailed design.
•    Practical knowledge of geothermal production and injection wells, including high-temperature drilling, lost circulation, formation damage, thermal cycling, corrosive fluids, scaling and well integrity risks.
•    Experience in casing and tubing design, cementing, drilling hydraulics, well control, drilling fluids, directional drilling, wellheads, completions, well testing, stimulation, workover and abandonment.
•    Experience preparing drilling and completion programmes, technical specifications, scopes of work, cost estimates, schedules and well delivery risk assessments.
•    Experience reviewing drilling contractor and specialist service-provider proposals, technical deviations, procedures and operational performance.
•    Working knowledge of drilling rigs, pressure-control equipment, wellhead systems, tubulars, cementing services, directional drilling, logging, testing and completion equipment.
•    Experience supporting drilling operations, wellsite activities, equipment readiness, operational troubleshooting or post-well performance review.
•    Familiarity with recognised well engineering software for casing design, hydraulics, torque and drag, cementing, directional planning and cost or schedule analysis.
•    Competence in interpreting geological, geomechanical, reservoir, pressure, temperature, drilling and well-test information for well design purposes.
•    Understanding of well integrity management, barrier verification, management of change, technical assurance and lifecycle well risk management.
•    Knowledge of applicable geothermal and wells-related legislation, standards, recommended practices, HSE requirements and quality-management processes.
•    Experience working within consultancy, operator, drilling contractor, EPC/EPCM, PMC or Owner’s Engineer environments.
•    Strong technical writing, analytical, client-facing communication and multidisciplinary coordination skills.
•    Willingness to travel and undertake office, vendor, rig-site and field assignments as required.
Desirable
•    Experience with both conventional hydrothermal and enhanced geothermal system developments.
•    Experience designing or delivering high-temperature, corrosive or deep geothermal wells.
•    Knowledge of well stimulation, injectivity enhancement, induced-seismicity interfaces and geomechanical risk management.
•    Experience with geothermal wellhead, gathering-system and power-plant interfaces.
•    Experience undertaking independent technical review, due diligence or lender’s technical advisory assignments.
•    Experience supporting bids, proposals, workshare arrangements and business development.
•    Previous responsibility for mentoring or supervising wells engineering personnel.
Qualifications:
•    Bachelor’s degree in petroleum, drilling, mechanical, chemical or geological engineering, or a closely related discipline.
•    Postgraduate study or specialist training in well engineering, drilling, geothermal engineering or a related field is desirable.
•    Chartered Engineer, Professional Engineer or equivalent professional registration is desirable.
•    Recognised well-control certification appropriate to the role is desirable, particularly where operational or wellsite support is required.
•    Relevant training in well integrity, barrier management, HAZID/HAZOP, drilling risk assessment or operational safety is advantageous.
