Job Summary This is technical work responsible for deploying, maintaining, and repairing Jacksonville Aviation Authority (JAA) systems such as the CCTV security video, access control, and parking & revenue control, in a timely and efficient manner. Work requires advanced knowledge of electronic and computer principles, mechanics of telecommunication devices and equipment, knowledge of database definition and administration principles and practices. Contacts require courtesy, tact and skill in understanding employees, vendors, department representatives which is important in problem resolution and the implementation, operation and repair of system end devices and electronics & communication equipment. Work is standardized in that tasks are covered by substantially diversified procedures and, because of changing priorities or differing situations, the employee has the latitude to consider which of many procedures should be followed and in what sequence. Work is performed in an office environment at times, but primarily in buildings and structures where risks and hazards that are known, somewhat predictable, and mostly controllable. Operates computers, motor vehicle and equipment and tools necessary for installing, diagnosing, testing, and repairing electronics & communication equipment. Work is performed under limited supervision where work assignments are subject to established procedures, practices, or defined policies. The worker plans and organizes the work and determines priorities. The work is reviewed, usually after the fact, in terms of quality, timeliness and adherence to methods, standards and policies.

Qualifications

Essential Functions

- Attends to breakdowns in electronics & communications equipment.

- Tests, diagnoses and rectifies faults in electronic circuits and apparatuses.

- Services analogue, digital and data equipment and signals.

- Troubleshoots, repairs and services CCTV or digital video cameras, access control devices, parking systems and all non-voice over IP phone systems.

- Terminates and splices fiber optics with the use of fusion splicer.

- Operates and tests fiber optics with an OTDR.

- Installs network and fiber optic cables per JAA standards and industry best practices.

- Participates in hardware and/or software selection, system testing and modification.

- Operates various hardware and/or software diagnostic test equipment.

- Installs, configures and operates various operating systems and software, including the back-up and recovery of data, hard drive and/or video server installation.

- Provides maintenance of UPS units within IT spaces.

- Maintains up-to-date documentation of processes used to complete tasks.

- Utilizes work order system to document work orders appropriately.

- Performs other related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

- Knowledge of how information systems integrate in a commercial environment.

- Ability to interpret systems and self-diagnose information and/or error codes.

- Knowledge and experience using low voltage wiring and cabling.

- Ability to read and comprehend plans and drawing.

- Knowledge of networking and configurations as they apply to access control systems, surveillance video or parking systems.

- Basic knowledge of life safety requirements.

- Basic understanding of fiber optic systems.

- Strong trouble-shooting skills.

- Ability to work independently to provide solutions during service calls and/or visits.

- Ability to be on-call at least two (2) weeks per month and respond within 20 minutes, when called.

Required Education & Experience

- High school diploma or its equivalent, with relevant specialized course of study and/or related industry certification and

- 3 years of related work experience.

Preferred Education & Experience

- Associate level or Bachelor’s degree in a closely related discipline.

Licenses & Certifications

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge.

- Florida Class E Driver’s License is required and must be maintained.

Physical Demands

The physical demands are moderate and consist primarily of sitting, standing, stooping, bending, reaching climbing, moving from one work location to another, walking at work sites for extended periods of time and occasionally lifting objects weighing up to ___ pounds.
