Job Description – Consultant Thoracic Surgeon
Position: Consultant – Thoracic Surgery
Department: Cardiothoracic / Thoracic Surgery
Reporting To: Medical Director / Head of Department
Location: Mazumdar Shaw Medical Centre
Employment Type: Full-time
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose and manage patients with thoracic surgical conditions.
- Perform elective and emergency thoracic surgical procedures.
- Perform procedures including, as appropriate, VATS, thoracotomy, lung resections, wedge resection, lobectomy, pneumonectomy, mediastinal procedures, pleural surgery and chest wall surgery.
- Participate in multidisciplinary management of thoracic oncology patients.
- Provide pre-operative assessment, surgical intervention and post-operative care.
- Manage surgical emergencies and complications effectively.
- Work closely with pulmonologists, oncologists, radiologists, anesthetists, intensivists and other specialists.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
- Participate in tumour boards, clinical meetings and departmental activities.
- Contribute to teaching, training, clinical audits and quality-improvement initiatives.
- Follow hospital protocols, infection-control standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
