About this role

Job Summary : The Planner I, situated within the municipality's Community Development Department, plays a crucial role in assisting in the organized growth and development of the community. This entry-level position primarily entails the preparation and processing of zoning and planning-related documents, along with administrative duties under the guidance of the Community and Economic Development Director.

Major Duties:

- Assist in the preparation and distribution of zoning and planning-related documents, including notices, reports, and correspondence.

- Maintain organized and up-to-date records and files, both physical and electronic.

- Process permit applications, issue permits, and maintain accurate records of permits issued.

- Provide guidance and assistance to applicants regarding zoning and permitting processes.

- Serve as a point of contact for the public, addressing inquiries related to zoning regulations, land use, and permitting.

- Assist in organizing, attending, and occasionally presenting at public meetings, hearings, and workshops related to zoning and planning matters.

- Prepare and maintain records, documents, and reports related to planning and development projects.

- Schedule meetings, appointments, and public hearings for planning professionals and department officials.

- Manage department correspondence, including emails, letters, and phone inquiries.

- Assist in organizing and facilitating public meetings, workshops, and hearings related to planning and development projects.

- Respond to inquiries from community members and provide information on zoning regulations, permitting processes, and land use policies.

- Collaborate with planning professionals on various projects, including comprehensive plans, zoning code updates, and development proposals.

- Assist in conducting site visits and field assessments.

Knowledge Required by the Position:

- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;

- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment;

- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite;

- Experience working in a fast-paced environment;

- Comfortable with presenting to an audience;

- Skill in dealing with the public;

- Knowledge of or ability to learn the legal requirements related to planning and zoning;

- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;

- Must possess strong interpersonal relationship skills.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED with 3 (three) years of work experience in related or administrative field and must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in city planning or related field.
