Position Summary
The Assistant Store Director supports the overall operation of the grocery store by ensuring excellent customer service, strong sales performance, labor efficiency, food safety compliance, and effective team leadership. This position assists in managing all store departments, coaching employees, maintaining operational standards, and achieving company goals for sales, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Store Operations
- Assist the Store Director in the daily management of store operations.
- Ensure all departments are properly staffed and operating efficiently.
- Monitor store conditions for cleanliness, organization, and safety.
- Conduct regular sales floor walks to identify opportunities and resolve issues.
- Ensure proper opening, closing, and cash-handling procedures are followed.
- Maintain high standards for merchandising, stocking, and product presentation.
Leadership and Team Development
- Supervise department managers and store team members.
- Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback to employees.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and employee development.
- Promote a positive and productive work environment.
- Address employee concerns and assist with conflict resolution.
- Hold team members accountable to company policies and performance expectations.
Customer Service
- Lead by example by delivering exceptional customer service.
- Resolve customer complaints and concerns professionally and promptly.
- Ensure employees maintain a customer-focused approach at all times.
- Monitor customer satisfaction and implement improvement strategies.
Financial Management
- Assist in achieving sales, labor, shrink, and profitability goals.
- Monitor labor scheduling to meet budget targets while maintaining service levels.
- Review sales reports and identify opportunities for growth.
- Support inventory control and loss prevention initiatives.
- Assist in controlling operating expenses.
Merchandising and Inventory
- Ensure shelves, displays, and promotional areas are fully stocked and visually appealing.
- Verify pricing accuracy and promotional execution.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate replenishment efforts.
- Reduce shrink through proper rotation, receiving, and inventory management practices.
Food Safety and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain food safety, sanitation, and health department standards.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and corrective actions.
- Ensure employees follow food handling and workplace safety procedures.
Communication and Collaboration
- Communicate company goals and expectations to department teams.
- Work closely with department managers to execute operational plans.
- Participate in leadership meetings and company initiatives.
- Maintain effective communication with vendors, customers, and store leadership.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.
- 3-5 years of grocery retail management experience preferred.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience required.
- Strong knowledge of grocery store operations and merchandising.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in scheduling, labor management, and inventory control.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, push, and pull.
- Ability to work in varying temperature conditions, including refrigerated and freezer environments.

Position Objective:
