ATDM Welding Technician - 3rd Shift

This position requires eligibility to access controlled unclassified information (CUI) and export controlled data, and candidates must meet applicable federal requirements, including U.S. person status where required. This role is onsite in Danville, VA.

Hourly pay range: $27 per hour - $28 per hour. Pay will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and determined based on market benchmarks and internal equity

What Will You Do
The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) is seeking a Welding Technician to support the Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing (ATDM) program. This position works closely with the Welding Instructor to help deliver hands-on training that prepares students for careers supporting the defense manufacturing industry.

Key responsibilities include:

- Support welding instruction in classroom and laboratory environments.

- Assist students during hands-on welding and fabrication activities.

- Prepare training materials, tools, equipment, and workspaces for instruction.

- Order and maintain welding supplies, consumables, and materials needed for program operations.

- Assist with equipment setup, maintenance, inventory management, and shop organization.

- Ensure adherence to safety procedures and industry best practices.

- Support student success through positive engagement and technical assistance.

- Assist with program activities, events, and operational needs as assigned.

You will work collaboratively with instructors, staff, and students to ensure training activities run efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and professionalism.

Shift Availability
ATDM Instructors and Technicians are assigned shifts based on training needs. Shift assignments are determined by business needs at the time of hire, performance, and tenure. This position requires flexibility to work any shift as program needs evolve. Compensation includes a shift differential based on assigned instructional hours. This position will support training on third shift .

First Shift: Classes begin at 7:00 a.m.
Second Shift: Classes begin at 3:00 p.m.
Third Shift: Classes begin at 11:00 p.m.

Evening, weekend, and off site instructional assignments may be required.

Qualifications

Your Knowledge and Expertise

- Required Qualifications:

- High school diploma or GED.

- Current experience in welding and fabrication.

- Experience with various welding processes and materials, including:

Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)

- Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)

- Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)

- Competency in blueprint reading and fabrication.

- Competency in technical math applications used in the welding industry.

- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.

- Demonstrated ability to work successfully as part of a team.

- Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse student populations.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

- Onsite work in Danville, Virginia

- Ability to work first, second, or third shift class schedules:

First shift begins at 7:00 a.m.

- Second shift begins at 3:00 p.m.

- Third shift begins at 11:00 p.m.

- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs

- Work performed in a laboratory and shop environment with adherence to safety protocols
