Help Build What's Next in Tax, Accounting & Advisory

In this role, you can expect to focus in the following areas:
Lead, coach, and develop the team
- Provide day-to-day leadership, training, coaching, and oversight for Staff Accountants, Senior Accountants, Tax Interns, and other team members.
- Create clear expectations and help team members understand how their work contributes to client and organizational success.
- Support professional growth through timely feedback, ongoing coaching, and meaningful development conversations.
- Set challenging but realistic goals that align with team and organizational priorities.
- Help maintain an environment where team members are informed, engaged, supported, and accountable.
- Foster a collaborative culture that values strong relationships, open communication, continuous improvement, and shared success.
Provide tax leadership and technical oversight
- Review moderate to complex individual income tax returns, as well as fiduciary, partnership, and corporate returns.
- Review tax analyses and help identify planning and consulting opportunities.
- Research complex tax transactions and technical topics, then communicate findings clearly to clients and colleagues.
- Remain current on tax and industry developments and help the team consistently apply new guidance.
- Provide tax expertise to clients and professionals across the firm.
- Support the implementation of proactive tax planning and consulting strategies.
- Communicate proactively with clients and internal team members throughout the engagement process.
Support accounting and business advisory services
- Review monthly financial statements, bank reconciliations, payroll processing, journal entries, and related accounting work.
- Review quarterly and annual compliance reports.
- Support managers and participate in client meetings as needed.
- Help the team deliver connected accounting, tax, payroll, consulting, and business advisory support to healthcare practice owners.
Connect tax work with the clients broader financial picture
- Gather, organize, and synthesize financial and tax information needed to support client planning.
- Review financial statements, tax returns, estate planning documents, and other relevant client information.
- Review and deliver analyses involving tax, Social Security, insurance, stock options, Roth conversions, pensions, and other planning considerations.
- Collaborate across disciplines to help clients make informed decisions about their businesses and personal financial lives.
A couple things to note about our Supervisor, Savant Accounting & Business Advisory position:
- Work location: 1300 S. Grove Ave., Suite 201, Barrington, IL 60010
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, generally 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Typical workweek: Approximately 40 hours during much of the year
- Tax season expectations: Approximately 50 to 60 hours per week during tax season
- A meaningful transition opportunity: The Barrington team recently joined Savant through its partnership with Professional Business Management, Inc. As with any acquisition, there will be a transition period. This position will play an active role in helping the team navigate that change, connect with Savants resources and processes, and continue delivering the relationship-centered service clients expect.
- An established local foundation: Founded in 1932, the Barrington practice brings more than nine decades of experience serving healthcare professionals and private-practice owners.
- Specialized client relationships: The team works closely with physicians, dentists, veterinarians, and other healthcare professionals, providing guidance that extends beyond traditional tax preparation.
- Expanded capabilities: As part of Savant Accounting & Business Advisory, the Barrington team can connect clients with broader accounting, consulting, payroll, retirement planning support, tax, business advisory, and wealth management resources.
Qualifications
The Supervisor, Savant Accounting & Business Advisory position typically requires the following qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in accounting or a related field from an accredited college or university
- Four to eight years of experience in the tax department of a CPA firm, or equivalent experience
- Experience reviewing individual and business tax returns
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and mentor others
- Strong tax research, writing, and technical communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as tax analysis software
- Familiarity with online and print tax research resources
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to remain composed and communicate effectively during high-volume or complex situations
- Collaborative, client-first approach with the ability to work effectively with and through others
- Consistently positive, approachable, and professional demeanor
Preferred qualifications
- Active CPA license or progress toward CPA licensure
- Enrolled Agent designation
- Masters degree in taxation or another relevant advanced degree
- CFP certification or Series 65 registration
- Experience reviewing financial planning analyses
- Prior experience supporting healthcare professionals, private practices, or other closely held businesses

Our Total Rewards
At Savant, we invest in our people—supporting both their well-being and long-term growth.
We take a market-based approach to compensation. The expected base salary range for this role is $90,000 - $130,000. Actual compensation is determined on an individual basis and considers factors such as relevant experience, skills, qualifications, geographic location, and market conditions. This role may also be eligible for additional incentive compensation based on responsibilities and performance.
