Location: VM Deli
Hours: Part-Time, Hourly - 11 am - 6 pm (Shifts may include opening prep and closing)
Pay: $18.59 - $25.09

Job Summary:
Every team member in the Deli works together to do every job. The model in the Deli is fresh, made-to-order, high-quality food; you will make fresh sandwiches, prepare house-made salads, serve customers, and clean the kitchen and wash dishes. Because we are a small team, you must be dependable, team-oriented, and willing to help wherever needed to cover all daily tasks and help your coworkers.

Essential Duties
Food Preparation & Production

- Make sandwiches: Prepare sandwiches with speed and accuracy, building fresh, made-to-order items exactly to customer requests.

- Prep fresh ingredients: Slice, portion, and label veggie meats, cheeses, and toppings for the sandwich line using commercial slicers and knives.

- Batch cook: Prepare house-made salads, sandwich spreads, and other fresh food offerings using approved recipes.

- Monitor inventory: Stock and maintain the sandwich line, keeping food cases filled and looking fresh throughout the day

Customer Service & Point of Sale

- Greet customers: Provide friendly, fast service at the deli counter, communicating clearly and courteously with customers.

- Take orders: Write down custom orders accurately in person or over the phone.

- Operate register: Ring up orders, handle cash, and process card payments correctly.???

- Answer customer questions: Be prepared to give accurate answers to questions regarding allergens and other inquiries about health food ingredients.

Sanitation, Safety, & Closing

- Clean dishes: Wash pots, pans, and utensils using the three-compartment sink or commercial dishwasher.

- Daily cleaning: Sweep, mop, take out trash, and help with all general cleaning tasks.

- Sanitize surfaces: Clean slicing machines, cutting boards, counters, other?

- Open and close: Perform morning setup (slicing, stocking) or evening shutdown (sweeping, mopping, trash disposal, locking up).

- Follow food safety: Maintain correct food temperatures and log them as required by local health codes.

- Follow Equipment safety: Safely use knives, slicers, and kitchen equipment at all times. Other?

- Wear required attire: Put on required gear daily, including hair or beard nets, gloves, and aprons.

Other Job Duties and Expectations

- Teamwork: Willingness to learn every role and cross-train to cover coworkers' shifts.

- Reliability: Punctual attendance for all scheduled opening and closing shifts.

- Other Duties as assigned: Willingness to accept other responsibilities as assigned by the Deli Manager.

Training and Experience:

- High school graduation plus two (2) years' experience in food preparation work

- Efficiency: Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting.

- Attention to detail: Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions accurately.

- Recipe math: Ability to follow recipes and measure ingredients precisely.

- Safety knowledge: Basic knowledge of food safety guidelines.

Special Requirements:
Must have an expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, an SDA church member in good and regular standing

Working Conditions:
Essential tasks are performed under normal grocery store/deli conditions with little or no noticeable discomfort. The work area is well-lit and well-ventilated.

Typical Physical Demands:

- Standing: Stand and walk for the entire shift (up to 6-8 hours??).

- Lifting: Lift and carry up to 40 pounds (such as boxes of produce or bulk ingredients).

- Reaching/Bending: Reach, bend, and twist frequently to grab items from low coolers or high shelves.

- Environment: Work around hot equipment (toasters, ovens, panini presses) and enter walk-in freezers, and work with sharp equipment such as commercial electronic slicers.

- Requires: manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard commercial kitchen machinery. telephones, and some limited office equipment. Other? Requires normal hearing and vision. Requires the ability to communicate with customers in English
