Industrial Mechanic III

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for advanced maintenance and repair of industrial machinery and equipment, including pumps, conveyors, hydraulic systems, lubrication systems, and pneumatic systems. Work involves inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining milling equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

Work is performed under minimal supervision with moderate latitude in the use of initiative. Position relies on experience and exercises some independent judgement to determine the best approach by using and interpreting policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

- Conducts routine to complex inspections and maintenance on industrial machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance and prevent breakdowns

- Identifies mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues with industrial equipment and performs necessary repairs, including replacing or repairing defective parts

- Performs preventive maintenance by lubricating equipment, including pumps, conveyors, reducers, and electric motors

- Diagnoses and resolves machinery malfunctions and operational problems in a timely manner.

- Installs and calibrates replacement parts and components as needed; maintains accurate records of all replacements and repairs

- Performs performance tests, inspections, and quality control procedures to ensure the machinery meets safety and operational standards

- Maintains detailed records of maintenance and repair activities, including work orders and equipment history

- Work closely with other maintenance personnel, engineers, and production staff to resolve issues and maintain efficient operation

- Works collaboratively with other team members and supervisors to achieve project goals

- Ensures the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times

- Follows organizational safety guidelines and protocols, performs job functions in a safe manner, and reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- May train, coordinate, provide guidance to and review the work of lower-level staff to accomplish operational plans and results

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

- High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial equipment, including some previous lead-worker responsibility or demonstrated ability to lead the work of others;

- OR a combination of experience, certification, education and training that demonstrates expertise in the related areas.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Experience in a sugar mill processing facility

- Bilingual – English and Spanish

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

- Thorough knowledge of industrial machinery and equipment

- Thorough knowledge of safety protocols and compliance standards related to mechanical equipment operation

- Skill in using mathematics required for the work

- Skill in using diagnostic tools and equipment

- Ability to read manuals, blueprints, schematics, and diagrams

- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues and repair equipment

- Ability to work in hot, cold, wet, humid, dusty, and foggy working conditions depending on weather

- Ability to plan, assign, and guide the work of assigned staff

- Ability to follow instructions from supervisors and senior workers

- Ability to follow public safety guidelines and protocols and perform job functions in a safe manner

- Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds).
