SCHOOL BUS DRIVER

REPORTS TO: Athletic Director

Purpose
The purpose of this position is to operate a school bus to provide for the safe and orderly transportation of students and other personnel to and from schools or other designated locations.

Summary
This position performs all activities necessary to transport students and School personnel to and from Geneva School sanctioned events using the school bus. This includes vehicle operation; pre-trip and post-trip bus inspections; recommendations for bus maintenance; instructing passengers on safety rules and regulations; and ensuring these are followed. In addition, the Bus Driver will work with the administrator overseeing the event to plan a travel route. The Bus Driver will then take primary responsibility for monitoring travel conditions to help ensure the safe and timely arrival to School events and to the Geneva campus.

Supervision Received and Exercised
The Bus Driver receives direction from the Transportation Coordinator, Athletic Director or other division head. The Bus Driver has no direct supervisory responsibilities; however, the driver will have authority over the bus passengers with respect to safety and/or emergency procedures.

Work Schedule
This is a non-exempt position that is driven by athletic event scheduling, and periodically, by fine arts or other campus event programming.

Vehicle Operation
- Drive bus following agreed-upon route while adhering to established schedule
- Anticipate problems such as traffic, weather, road conditions, and schedule changes and make necessary adjustments to ensure student safety and reduce delays
- Complete pre-trip and post-trip bus inspections and submit recommendations for maintenance and repairs
- Keep the bus clean and fueled
- Report all accidents, vehicle damage and student injuries as they occur to the Athletic Director or Athletics Coordinator
- Complete and maintain accurate, up-to-date records and reports concerning bus mileage, maintenance requirements, fuel purchases, and students/adults transported

Student Management
- Assist Assigned Chaperone with the following:
Instructing students on safety rules and regulations to board, ride and depart the bus
- Maintaining student discipline and behavior following Geneva School of Boerne policy and procedures
- Ensuring students clean bus thoroughly at the end of the trip
- Reporting student discipline problems to the Athletic Director or responsible division administrator

Safety
- Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses
- Maintain safety precautions when students are boarding and departing the bus
- Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment such as first aid and body fluid kits, fire extinguishers, reflectors, crowbar, etc.
- Report unsafe conditions on bus or in work area and promptly report unsafe conditions that are not immediately correctable
- Report any hazardous conditions along the route
- Follow emergency procedures and administer CPR or first aid if necessary
- Perform emergency evacuation of students on bus when the situations warrant

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
- A disciple of Jesus Christ and as such, one who models a love for God through obedience to His Word. Such obedience is evidenced through convictions, lifestyle and worldview.
- Full and unreserved support of the Schools Statement of Faith and Statement on Identity, Sexuality and Gender
- High School Diploma or Accredited General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
- Valid Texas Commercial Drivers License Class A or B with P and S endorsement
- Must be 25 years of age
- Clean driving record (no record of DWI or convictions for the past 10 years and acceptable driving records according to Texas Department of Public Safety standards)
- Pass State-required pre-employment physical examination and drug test
- Minimum two (2) years of experience as a school bus driver for an independent school district or a private school in Texas or related experience

- Skill in operating passenger buses
- Proficient travel route planning and map reading skills
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to bus operations
- A person who has strong interpersonal skills, with a genuine interest in working with people

- Five (5) years of experience as a licensed school bus driver in Texas

Physical Requirements
- Significant lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds frequently, and higher amounts occasionally
- Physical mobility and stamina for activities that may be strenuous to include:
Safe passenger bus operation, including steering, operating pedals, shifting gears, opening/closing doors, within confined space of drivers seat
- Continual sitting, walking, climbing, or reaching, and repetitive hand and arm motions
- Occasional pushing and pulling, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and crouching
- Evacuate bus through confined space of emergency exits
- Ability to perform under temperature extremes, with excessive dust or dirt
- Visual Acuity, Auditory and Speaking with or without/correction necessary to complete the essential job functions
