Location: Bakken Oilfield – Watford City/Williston, North Dakota Area

Position Summary
Sentry ND is seeking an experienced and dependable Line Locator to identify and mark underground oilfield pipelines, electrical lines, communication cables, and other buried facilities throughout the Bakken. This position is responsible for completing accurate locates before excavation begins and helping prevent damage to underground infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Receive, review, and respond to line-locate requests.
- Locate and mark underground pipelines, electrical lines, communication cables, and other buried facilities.
- Use electronic locating equipment, maps, drawings, and available facility records.
- Confirm work areas with field personnel before excavation begins.
- Clearly mark underground facilities using approved colors, flags, and paint.
- Complete required documentation and upload photographs of completed locates.
- Communicate conflicts, unclear records, or unlocatable facilities to the appropriate personnel.
- Maintain locating equipment and report damaged or malfunctioning tools.
- Follow company, customer, One Call, and site-specific safety requirements.
- Participate in JSAs, safety meetings, and required training.
- Travel between oilfield locations and respond to emergency or short-notice locate requests.
- Perform additional field duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous utility or oilfield line-locating experience preferred.
- Knowledge of underground oilfield infrastructure and pipeline systems is strongly preferred.
- Ability to read maps, site drawings, and facility records.
- Experience operating electronic locating equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
- Good communication, documentation, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in changing weather and field conditions.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Must pass required drug screening and background requirements.
- OSHA, H2S, First Aid/CPR, and PEC/SafeLand certifications are preferred.
Physical and Scheduling Requirements
- Ability to walk uneven terrain and work around active oilfield locations.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and an on-call rotation when required.
- Reliable attendance and the ability to respond promptly to scheduled and emergency locates.
