Primary Responsibilities
We are seeking a beginner to intermediate-level Scientist, Geologist, or Engineer with experience in environmental field work and supporting report preparation. The qualified candidates would ideally have at least 2–5 years of professional experience with the following environmental activities:
- IEPA LUST & SRP investigation and reporting activities
- ASTM Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments
- Soil excavation oversight and confirmation sampling
- Conduct soil, groundwater, and soil-gas sampling
- Oversee soil boring and monitor well installation
- Document review and reporting including laboratory data analysis
- Prepare groundwater elevation contour maps and geologic cross sections
- Must communicate effectively with team members, managers, subcontractors, and on-site personnel
Qualifications
- BS in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, or related field
- Proficiency with IEPA TACO
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
- Ability to travel 40–50% (primarily local), occasionally on short notice
- Strong Microsoft Office Word and Excel skills
- Able to work independently with limited guidance and be detail-oriented
- Strong understanding and commitment to health and safety protocols
- Willing to work outside in a variety of climates and traverse tough terrain
- Willing to work at active industrial properties
- Willing to work over and/or outside of regular business hours, as needed
- 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification a plus
Integral to the position will be proficiency in review, interpretation, and application of local, federal, and state environmental regulations, as well as detailed standards from organizations such as ASTM. The qualified person would prepare supporting reports associated with the above-listed activities in accordance with applicable standards and agency regulations. The selected candidate would work in a team environment with senior staff providing support, guidance, and mentorship as needed.
