About this role

- Plan and prepare daily meals and snacks according to the center's approved menus and nutritional requirements.

- Accommodate documented food allergies, intolerances, and special dietary needs as directed by center policies and parent/medical documentation.

- Follow established recipes, portion sizes, and meal schedules.

- Follow all federal, state, and local regulations regarding child nutrition, food preparation, sanitation, and food safety.

- Maintain proper food storage, labeling, rotation, and inventory practices.

- Monitor food temperatures and ensure food is prepared, stored, and served safely.

- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen, including food preparation surfaces, appliances, dishes, utensils, and storage areas.

- Wash dishes and kitchen equipment as needed.

- Monitor food and kitchen supply inventory and notify the appropriate supervisor when supplies need to be ordered.

- Receive and properly store food and supply deliveries.

- Minimize food waste while maintaining appropriate food quality and quantity.

- Use kitchen equipment safely and report any equipment problems or safety concerns promptly.

- Work cooperatively with teachers and center staff to ensure meals and snacks are served on schedule.

- Maintain confidentiality regarding children and families.

- Participate in required staff meetings, training, and professional development.

- Perform other duties as assigned by the Center Director or designated supervisor.

Qualifications

- Previous experience in food preparation, cooking, or a commercial kitchen preferred.

- Experience preparing food for children is a plus.

- Knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices.

- Ability to follow recipes, menus, and written instructions.

- Ability to safely operate standard kitchen equipment.

- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.

- Ability to maintain a clean and organized work environment.

- Dependable, responsible, and attentive to detail.

- Must meet all applicable state licensing requirements for child care food service personnel.
