Job Title: Lead ITAD Technician / Quality Control Specialist

Department: Operations

Reports To: Operations Manager

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Lead ITAD Technician to oversee the testing, repair, quality control, and processing of off-lease and returned IT assets—primarily laptops, desktops, and peripheral devices. This role combines hands-on hardware repair expertise with quality control and depot logistics to ensure all processed inventory meets strict functional, physical, and data security standards (R2V3).

Key Responsibilities

- Hardware Testing & Repair

Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair laptops, desktops, and mobile devices down to the component level (display replacements, battery swaps, keyboard/trackpad fixes, and motherboard component swaps).

- Perform triage and component harvesting from non-functional units.

- Execute standard OS loading, BIOS updates, and firmware configuration.

- Quality Control (QC)

Inspect incoming and outgoing assets to verify grade (Cosmetic A/B/C/D) and functional condition against standard ITAD metrics.

- Ensure data sanitization standards (e.g., NIST 800-88, DoD) are fully met and audit logs are accurate before assets move to inventory.

- Conduct final audits on repaired or refurbished units to prevent non-conforming items from reaching clients or resale channels.

- Depot & Inventory Support

Assist with depot receiving, unboxing, palletizing, sorting, and logging incoming assets into the ERP system.

- Track part movement, maintain an organized parts inventory, and flag low stock for commonly used replacement hardware.

- Prepare bulk shipments for downstream re-marketing, recycling, or return-to-client processing.

- Leadership & Process Improvement

Guide and mentor junior technicians on best practices for repair, ESD safety, and testing procedures.

- Help optimize processing workflows to improve throughput and yield rates.

Qualifications & Skills

- Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience in laptop repair, refurbished electronics, or ITAD processing operations.

- Technical Skills: Deep familiarity with major OEM hardware (Dell, HP, Lenovo, Apple), diagnostic tools, component replacement, and BIOS settings.

- Maintain expert-level knowledge of industry standards and regulations, including R2v3, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001,  and global e-waste directives (e.g., WEEE).

- Data Security Knowledge: Familiarity with NIST 800-88 standards and commercial data wiping software

- Certifications (Preferred): CompTIA A+, OEM Certifications (Dell, HP, Apple Certified Technician), or R2v3 / RIOS awareness.

- Meticulous Attention to Detail: High standard for accuracy and quality control; understands that the small things matter when inspecting hardware, logging serial numbers, and wiping drives.

- Physical Capabilities: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods within a warehouse/depot environment.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay range is between $26 - $28/hour with a 40-hour standard workweek.
