Overall Function :

The Driver Aide plays an important role in helping individuals with developmental disabilities by providing safe, reliable, and compassionate transportation. This position will assist the individuals to medical appointments, community outings, recreational activities, day programs, home visits, and other scheduled activities.

Essential Functions:

- Assist clients safely in entering and existing vehicles and provide support as needed during transportation.

- Provide supervision and safely transport clients throughout the entire outing.

- Communicate respectfully with clients, families, caregivers, and other staff.

- Assist client with mobility needs and personal belongs, when necessary.

- Maintain accurate and required transportation logs/documentation.

- Ensure that clients arrive at scheduled destinations safely and on time.

- Maintain confidentiality and respect each clients privacy.

- Operates assigned vehicle(s) and performs such routine duties as filling gas tank, routine safety checks, etc.

- Reports accidents, needed repairs, state inspections, etc. to immediate supervisor as soon as discovered or directly upon occurrence.

- Other duties as required.

- Adheres to all policies, laws, regulations and codes of ethics and confidentiality as outlined by federal and state laws, and agency policies and procedures.

Qualifications

- Demonstrated ability to safely operate and control delivery vehicles.

- Knowledge of general and routine vehicle maintenance requirements.

- Valid Pennsylvania driver's license and safe driving record.

- Must undergo a Physical Examination, including vision screening and be deemed qualified to drive for the agency.

- Must be considered insurable by the Agency's Insurance Company.

- Must successfully obtain criminal clearance from the PA State Police, Child Abuse Clearance from the PA Department of Human Services, and FBI Fingerprint Clearances.

- Must not be excluded from participation in Medicare, Medicaid, or any other federal health care program.

- Ability to routinely assist, move, and/or transfer items and equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.

- Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and assist clients with mobility when entering or existing the vehicle.

- Ability to respond to unexpected situations.
