About this role

The Commercial Paint Foreman is responsible for leading and coordinating field painting activities on assigned commercial projects to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications and Stancil Services' quality standards. This position serves as the day-to-day field leader for assigned painting crews, working closely with the Superintendent and/or Project Manager to coordinate manpower, materials, equipment, schedules, and jobsite requirements.

The Paint Foreman is a working leader who is expected to provide hands-on support while maintaining responsibility for crew productivity, workmanship, safety, and execution of assigned work.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides day-to-day direction and oversight to assigned painters, helpers, and other field personnel. Responsibilities include assigning work, monitoring productivity and quality, providing coaching and instruction, and communicating performance or staffing concerns to the Superintendent and/or Project Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

- Lead and coordinate the daily activities of assigned commercial painting crews, including manpower allocation, work sequencing, jobsite preparation, and execution of work in accordance with project plans, specifications, schedules, and Company expectations.

- Understand daily and project production goals, clearly communicate expectations to the crew, monitor progress and productivity throughout the workday, and report actual production achieved against planned goals. Identify and communicate conditions affecting productivity or schedule performance.

- Complete accurate and timely daily field reporting, including manpower, work performed, production achieved, areas completed, material and equipment needs, quality and safety concerns, project constraints, supporting photographs, and planned activities for the following workday.

- Monitor workmanship and perform ongoing quality control inspections as work progresses. Identify and correct deficiencies before the crew advances whenever practical to minimize punch work, return trips, remobilization, rework, and downstream customer concerns.

- Identify changed field conditions and work that may be outside the established project scope. Document the condition, including photographs and relevant field information, and promptly communicate it to the appropriate Superintendent and/or Project Manager before proceeding whenever practical. The Foreman is not responsible for determining contractual responsibility or pricing change orders.

- Maintain a safe, organized, and productive jobsite by reinforcing Company safety requirements, proper work practices, appropriate use of tools and equipment, and accountability among crew members.

- Coordinate labor, materials, tools, equipment, and access needs with project leadership to support efficient workflow and minimize delays or interruptions to production.

- Communicate professionally with project leadership, other trades, customers, and crew members regarding field conditions, schedule needs, work progress, and issues requiring escalation.

- Other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; relevant commercial painting experience may substitute for formal education.

- Three (3) or more years of commercial painting experience preferred, including experience performing a variety of surface preparation and coating applications.

- Previous experience leading, directing, or training a commercial painting crew strongly preferred.

- Working knowledge of commercial painting materials, coatings, surface preparation, application methods, tools, and equipment.

- Ability to read and understand project plans, specifications, scopes of work, product information, and jobsite instructions.

- Demonstrated ability to plan daily work, organize crews, and identify manpower, material, tool, and equipment needs.

- Ability to recognize quality concerns and determine appropriate corrective action.

- Working knowledge of construction and jobsite safety practices, including PPE, ladders, scaffolding, fall protection, and aerial lift safety.

- OSHA 10 and applicable equipment certifications preferred or ability to obtain required certifications after hire.

- Basic ability to use mobile devices and Company systems for timekeeping, communication, and field documentation.

- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required when operating a Company vehicle or driving on Company business.

STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE

- Leadership: Provides clear direction to the crew, communicates daily work and production expectations, monitors performance, holds team members accountable, and leads by example.

- Quality: Proactively inspects work as it progresses to ensure compliance with project specifications, manufacturer requirements, and Company standards, correcting deficiencies promptly to minimize rework, punch work, and return trips.

- Productivity: Understands production goals, effectively plans and organizes daily work, monitors progress throughout the day, and manages crew performance to achieve production expectations, control labor hours, and maintain project schedules.

- Safety: Consistently follows and reinforces Company and jobsite safety requirements and immediately addresses unsafe conditions or behaviors.

- Communication: Proactively communicates project status, production results, manpower and material needs, field conditions, delays, project constraints, and potential out-of-scope work to project leadership.

- Accountability: Takes ownership of assigned work and maintains accurate, timely daily documentation of manpower, work performed, production achieved, areas completed, field conditions, supporting photos, and upcoming work needs and activities.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS

- Work is primarily performed at active commercial construction sites and may include indoor and outdoor environments. The position regularly requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and working from ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts.

- Employees may be exposed to paint and coating products, fumes, dust, noise, temperature extremes, and other conditions typical of commercial construction environments.

- The position requires the ability to lift and carry materials, tools, and equipment commonly associated with commercial painting operations. Travel between jobsites may be required.

- Work schedules may vary based on project requirements and may occasionally include early mornings, evenings, weekends, or overtime.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

May regularly use commercial painting tools and equipment, including brushes, rollers, spray equipment, pressure washers, sanders, grinders, ladders, scaffolding, aerial lifts, and other surface preparation and application equipment.

The position may also use mobile devices, tablets, computers, project management applications, and other Company systems for communication, timekeeping, and field documentation.
