About the Role :
This is a critical senior leadership role within Great British Energy’s Supply Chain business. In December 2025, GBE announced ‘Energy, Engineered in the UK’, our approach to deploying £1bn of public funding to transform the UK’s energy industry and grow domestic clean energy supply chains. The Head of Supply Chain Strategy will lead the strategy function responsible for identifying the highest-impact supply chain opportunities, shaping sector investment strategies and ensuring GBE’s funding is deployed where it can unlock maximum strategic, economic and public value.
The role demands a senior energy, industrial strategy or investment professional with deep knowledge of UK clean energy supply chains, strong commercial finance capability, and a sophisticated understanding of public sector funding models, government decision -making and public finance institutions. The successful candidate will lead the Supply Chain Strategy function and provide strategic direction to the Offshore, Onshore and Industrial Supply Chain Strategy Leads , ensuring a coherent and prioritised investment strategy across offshore wind and electricity networks; onshore wind, solar, storage and networks; and industrial sectors including hydrogen, CCUS and oil and gas transition.
The postholder will work closely with multidisciplinary colleagues across strategy, investment, transactions, analysis , engineering, policy and delivery. They will represent GBE externally in senior forums and will be expected to build and maintain trusted senior-level relationships across industry, UK Government and key public finance bodies.
Key Responsibilities:
The postholder will play a critical leadership role in shaping, promoting and delivering Great British Energy’s cross-sector supply chain investment strategy, including:
- Lead the development and execution of GBE’s cross-sector Supply Chain Investment Strategy, ensuring a coherent approach across offshore, onshore and industrial energy supply chains and clear alignment with Energy, Engineered in the UK objectives
- Lead , coach and provide strategic direction to the Offshore, Onshore and Industrial Supply Chain Strategy Leads , building a high-performing team with deep sector expertise and a strong culture of collaboration, pace and analytical rigour
- Take overall responsibility for investment strategy development, prioritisation and origination across the three sector teams, ensuring GBE maintains a robust pipeline of credible, high-impact investment opportunities
- Work closely with the Investment Ops team to report on investment pipeline to the MD for Supply Chain Investment for the Executive Leadership Team.
- Provide senior technical, commercial and strategic challenge to sector pipelines, ensuring opportunities are assessed against strategic fit, deliverability, additionality, value for money, funding need and likely transaction pathway
- Lead the development of market intelligence and sector insight across supply chain priority areas, translating analysis into clear recommendations for GBE senior leadership and investment colleagues
- Work closely with Transactions, Finance, Legal, Policy and Delivery colleagues to ensure investment strategies are commercially robust, fundable, compliant with public sector controls and capable of being developed into executable propositions
- Build and maintain senior-level networks across key public sector partners (including DESNZ, DBT, HM Treasury, devolved governments), using those relationships to unlock policy, regulatory and financial barriers to investment
- Lead strategic engagement with public finance bodies such as the National Wealth Fund, UK Export Finance, the British Business Bank, Scottish National Investment Bank and relevant regional funding bodies to align GBE’s funding offer with the wider public finance landscape
- Ensure sector strategies reflect a sophisticated understanding of commercial finance and public sector funding models, including grants, debt, equity, co-investment and blended finance
- Represent GBE in senior-level boards, working groups, investor discussions, industry events and site visits, positioning GBE as a trusted and influential partner for clean energy supply chain investment
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:
- Significant experience in renewable and low-carbon energy supply chains, industrial strategy, and investment strategy, with the credibility to lead across offshore, onshore and industrial energy sectors
- Proven experience leading , developing and providing strategic direction to senior professionals or multidisciplinary teams
- Strong understanding of investment strategy, origination, pipeline development, market analysis and opportunity prioritisation in energy, infrastructure or industrial supply chains
- Demonstrable understanding of both commercial finance and public sector funding models, including how companies raise and deploy capita and structure projects and how government deploys funding including grants, co-investment and blended finance
- Established senior-level networks and trusted relationships across key UK Government departments, regulators, devolved administrations, public bodies and public finance institutions relevant to clean energy and industrial investment
- Experience working within or alongside public finance institutions, government investment teams, regulators or public bodies to design, align or deliver funding interventions
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to build consensus across industry, government and finance stakeholders to overcome barriers to investment execution
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to provide clear advice to senior leaders and represent GBE confidently in external forums
- Specific knowledge of all the following supply chain areas: Offshore wind, offshore electricity networks, offshore services, equipment and vessels
- Energy storage, onshore wind, solar and onshore electricity networks
- Hydrogen, carbon capture, utilisation and storage, and oil and gas supply chain transition
Desirable:
- Experience working with manufacturers, developers, operators, EPCs, investors or trade bodies in one or more clean energy supply chain sectors
