Position Overview

- Job Title: Maintenance Engineer

- Location: 4595 Columbus Street, Virginia Beach, VA 23462

- Reports To: Chief Engineer / General Manager

- Schedule: Full-time. Variable hours, must include weekends and holidays; may include an on-call rotation.

- Work Environment: Modern hotel in the heart of Virginia Beach's Town Center business and entertainment district

Summary

The Maintenance Engineer keeps the property safe, comfortable, and fully functional by performing repairs and preventive maintenance across guest rooms, public spaces, and building systems. This is a hands-on role responding to guest and staff requests, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining hotel equipment to brand and safety standards.

Job Functions:

- Performs repairs and maintenance across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and general building systems.

- Responds to guest and staff maintenance requests promptly and professionally.

- Conducts routine preventive maintenance on guest rooms, public areas, and equipment on schedule.

- Maintains accurate logs of repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance completed.

- Supports life-safety systems and ensures compliance with OSHA, brand, and company safety standards.

- If applicable, maintains pool and spa systems and water chemistry in accordance with local health requirements.

- Abides by the regulations set forth by the material safety data sheets when handling chemicals.

- Identifies and escalates larger repair or capital needs to the Chief Engineer.

- Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work and storage area.

- Reports for scheduled shifts, on time and in uniform, in accordance with company policy.

- Knows and complies with all company policies and procedures pertaining to this position and its duties.

- Takes the initiative to greet guests in a friendly and warm manner.

- Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Qualifications

- High School diploma or GED required.

- 1+ years of hotel, commercial, or facilities maintenance experience preferred.

- Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general repair.

- Strong troubleshooting skills and a guest-first mindset.

- Able to communicate in English, verbal and written.

- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.

- Ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

- HVAC/EPA certification or CPO (Certified Pool Operator) certification a plus.
