Job Description: The remote Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for developing design specifications, creating and maturing design concepts, providing procurement support, and generating drawings and design documentation. This position requires interfacing with Business PMs, Technical Project Engineers, sourcing and equipment manufacturers, and engineering teams from both partners to ensure accountability for cost, schedule, quality, and technical accuracy of assigned tasks. Responsibilities:
- Develop design specifications and mature design concepts.
- Provide procurement support and generate necessary drawings and design documentation.
- Execute analysis, design, testing, or integration required for reactor internal components that meet business standards and product requirements.
- Perform fundamental engineering hand calculations and modeling.
- Develop designs for mechanical components and equipment.
- Assess causality and risk.
- Prepare and present technical data to internal customers.
- Lead and facilitate discussions to promote open dialogue in a matrixed team environment.
- Ensure product designs meet all intended application and design requirements.
- Provide technical support through sourcing for fabricator assessment and interfaces.
- Prepare invention disclosures to protect competitive technology.
- Participate and lead teams on specific organizational initiatives.
Essential Skills:
- US Citizenship.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- 7+ years of experience in design activities within the fabrication or manufacturing industry.
- Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor 3D CAD design or similar tools.
- Experience with large assembly, welding, and fabrication.
- Experience with Geometric Design & Tolerancing (GD&T) practices.
- Experience with tolerance stack ups.
- Proficiency with ANSYS FEA analysis.
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience in the BWR (Boiling Water Reactor) or PWR (Pressurized Water Reactor) industry is a bonus.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of AWS codes.
- Understanding of nuclear-specific skills, though not required.
Work Environment:
- This role is fully remote and involves heavy research and development.
- The work environment focuses on next-generation R&D concepts that are advancing nuclear technology, critical for addressing sustainability and renewable energy challenges.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Virginia Beach, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $75.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
