About this role

As a Network Engineer, you will i mplement and m anage Internet Viking's h osting services n etwork i nfrastructure. This position entails leading new network architecture blueprints, projects, mentoring network engineers and ensuring that the organisation's  networks operate efficiently, securely and reliabl y .

This position is part of our Engineering team which handles all t echnical o perations from 24/7 NOC , DevOps, SRE, Cloud and Network Infrastructure .

The Engineering team is responsible to provide m anaged s ervices for our customers , including architecture and implementation of complex solutions, configuration of new customer environments and daily operations and maintenance of our infrastructure .

You will be reporting directly to the Head of Infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

- Implement, manage, and maintain customer facing production network infrastructure supporting our hosting services

- Implement and manage core network routing configuration, network security solutions, such as firewalls, DDoS protection and VPNs

- Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues with minimal downtime

- Plan and execute network upgrades, migrations and extensions

- Monitor network performance and implement improvements for optimal efficiency

- Support compliance-driven standards such as ISO 27001, manage and mitigate risks identified through vulnerability and audit assessments

- Implement and manage network automation and Infrastructure as Code solutions to improve efficiency and change management

- Collaborate effectively with other stakeholders and customers to ensure projects and key deliverables are executed in a timely manner

- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date network designs, configurations and asset inventory

- Participate in incident, problem and change management

- Stay abreast on emerging technologies and recommend their adoption where applicable

- Maintain documentation and contribute to shared ways of working with other team members

- Participate in a shared on-call rotation

You should have strong experience in the following areas:

- Strong networking fundamentals and production experience using technology stacks from leading brands such as Cisco and Juniper

- Routing and switching e.g. Cisco and Juniper

- Practical hands-on background experience with on-premises architectures

- Firewalls and VPN’s

- Solid understanding of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VXLAN routing protocols

- Networking security and high-availability design principles

- DDoS protection products such as Cloudflare

- Software Defined Networking

- Experience with automation / IaC tooling and scripting

- Observability / monitoring experience for network platforms

Requirements

- 3+ years of experience as a Network Engineer in a production environment

- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to the team

- Be ready to drive ownership and change within our network infrastructure

- Have a problem solving and can-do attitude

- Keep solutions simple for others to follow

- Follow best practices in everything you do

- Familiar with ITIL Processes

- Be comfortable in having direct customer communication
