About this role

Purpose of the role

The Accountant will be responsible for managing the company’s day-to-day financial operations, maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports and reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with applicable tax, statutory and professional requirements.

Key Responsibilities

- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and the general ledger.
- Handle accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Prepare financial statements, reconciliations and financial reports.
- Manage payroll and statutory deductions, including PAYE, NSSF and other applicable statutory obligations.
- Prepare and file tax returns and ensure compliance with Tanzanian tax and statutory requirements.
- Monitor cash flow and manage bank transactions and reconciliations.
- Assist with budget preparation, financial planning and forecasting.
- Coordinate with external auditors and provide the required accounting records and supporting documentation during audits.
- Ensure financial transactions are properly recorded, supported and processed in accordance with applicable accounting procedures and controls.
- Apply sound accounting principles and financial reporting practices, including relevant IFRS requirements.
- Support the maintenance of effective financial controls and identify discrepancies or issues requiring attention.
- Use accounting and financial systems effectively and adapt to new systems and processes where required.

Qualifications & Experience

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a closely related field from a credible and recognized institution.
- CPA/ACCA qualification, completed or in progress, is an added advantage.
- At least 2 years of relevant accounting experience, with demonstrated responsibility for financial operations and accounting processes.
- Experience in industry accounting is preferred; relevant audit experience with broad accounting exposure may also be considered.
- At least a C grade in O-Level Mathematics and English.
- A-Level(Mathematics/ Applied Mathematics) must be a pass.
- Qualifications and academic credentials must be clearly documented and verifiable.
- Experience with SAP and/or Xero is preferred.
- Experience with other accounting or ERP systems such as QuickBooks, Tally or Sage is acceptable, with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and the ability to work efficiently with financial data, reports and reconciliations.
- Sound understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, IFRS, reconciliations, audit processes and Tanzanian tax and statutory compliance.
- Basic understanding of accounting professional codes of conduct and professional ethics.
- Strong attention to detail, integrity, confidentiality and professional responsibility.
- Good analytical, communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to take ownership of assigned responsibilities.
- Willingness and ability to learn and adapt to new systems, processes and requirements.
