As a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant at New Skill Centre , you will support and promote the learning and personal development of the pupil or pupils to whom you are assigned, to enable them to make best use of the educational opportunities available to them. To support tutors and teachers in the best interest of the pupils.

About the role

The New Skill Centre is a Special Independent SEND School catering for the needs of young people aged 11 to 19 years old, who are academically capable of achieving GCSE’S and other level 1 and 2 qualifications. All our students have an EHCP with identified SEND needs. Class sizes typically consist of 4-6 students and students experience a broad curriculum offer and regular school activities.

The postholder will be committed to supporting young people to the very best of their ability and working alongside a friendly and committed staff team. This is an opportunity to make a significant contribution to the lives of young people.

You will:

- work with class teachers to raise the learning and attainment of pupils
- promote pupils’ independence, self-esteem and social inclusion
- give support to pupils, individually or in groups, so they can access the curriculum, take part in learning, and experience a sense of achievement
- contribute to the values and ethos of the school
- be a positive role model for all pupils and colleagues
- planning and delivering learning and enrichment activities, either with Teachers or independently
- working with small groups of students or individuals needing special attention
- assess students’ progress and discussing development with teachers, parents and carers
- console students who are unwell, injured or upset
- supervise student groups on excursions and at sporting events.

The New Skill Centre is an Independent Special Educational Needs (SEN) School for pupils aged 11-16 and 16-19 who have difficulty in accessing mainstream settings and other large educational institutions.
