Position Summary:

The lab of Dr. Jorge Golowasch invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to establish a new research line elucidating the bioactivity of plant-derived natural products against neuroinflammation. This position bridges plant natural product chemistry with translational neuroscience, focusing on THC-like compounds identified in liverworts.

Essential Functions:

- Design and execute bioactivity screens for anti-neuroinflammatory effects in relevant cell models
- Perform biochemical assays (cytokine profiling, viability assays, signaling pathway analysis)
- Conduct microscopy imaging (immunofluorescence, live-cell imaging)
- Integrate electrophysiological readouts (patch-clamp) into the pipeline
- Maintain and troubleshoot mammalian cell culture (primary neuronal/glial and/or established lines)
- Handle compound prep, solubility optimization, and dosing for testing
- Mentor and train graduate students and undergraduate researchers
- Analyze and present data; contribute to manuscripts and grant applications
- Maintain records and ensure biosafety/protocol compliance

Pre-Requisite Qualifications:

- PhD in Neuroscience, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture systems.
- Experience with biochemical and molecular assays (e.g., ELISA, Western blotting, qPCR, viability/cytotoxicity assays)
- Proficiency in microscopy-based imaging techniques (e.g., fluorescence, confocal, or live-cell imaging) and associated image analysis software
- Strong record of productivity, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across multiple research groups

At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

$63,480.00

NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, or other items.
