About this role
On behalf of the CPS, we are looking for a Management Accountant - Inside IR35 for a 5 months contract working on a hybrid basis (2 days per week in any CPS office and remaining WFH)
The CPS prosecutes criminal cases that have been investigated by the police and other investigative organisations in England and Wales. The CPS is independent , and they make their decisions independently of the police and government.
Their duty is to make sure that the right person is prosecuted for the right offence, and to bring offenders to justice wherever possible.

The main duties and responsibilities of the Management Accountant would be to:
- Deliver accurate and timely financial management information, including budgets, forecasts, month-end reporting, and management accounts, ensuring compliance with financial controls and reporting deadlines.
- Produce insightful financial analysis and reporting that explains performance, identifies risks and opportunities, and supports strategic and operational decision -making.
- Lead financial planning and forecasting activities, challenging assumptions and providing robust financial and FTE forecasts to support business objectives .
- Build effective relationships with budget holders and senior stakeholders, acting as a trusted advisor on financial performance, resource allocation, and business planning.
- Ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial data by maintaining strong financial governance, controls , reconciliations, and assurance processes.
- Support the development of business cases, funding bids, workforce planning, and investment decisions through the provision of high-quality financial advice and analysis .
- Provide leadership , coaching, and line management to finance colleagues, promoting continuous improvement, capability development, and high-performance delivery across the team.
Essential:
- Professionally qualified accountant (CCAB/CIMA) or actively working towards a recognised Level 7 accounting qualification.
- Demonstrable experience in management accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting within a complex organisation.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial information and translate it into clear, actionable insight.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience of developing financial models, forecasts, dashboards, and management information to support decision -making.
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships, influencing and challenging constructively at all levels.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance audiences.
- Experience of managing competing priorities and delivering high-quality outputs within tight deadlines while driving continuous process improvement.
Desirable:
- Experience using Oracle Financials, Power BI, or other financial reporting/analytics tools.
- Knowledge of public sector finance, including Managing Public Money and government budgeting frameworks.
- Previous people management or team leadership experience.
- Experience developing business cases and supporting investment decisions .
