PAY RANGE: $28.00-$31.00
JOB SUMMARY : Complete scheduled trailer moves and changes, deliveries and pickups within required timelines. Operate heavy machinery (such as roll-off trailer and compactor) safely and as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Drive a Class A vehicle pickup-truck, box-truck, bobtail, dump truck and/or van, operating according to established procedures and rules. Follow all required state and federal rules and regulations.
Place and/or exchange trailers at donation sites or other designated sites.
Complete Driver Vehicle Inspection Report, trip sheets, shipping manifests, pickup logs and other related paperwork.
Load and/or off-load materials and prepare load for transport. Secure load in a safe manner.
Complete daily safety operational checklist prior to leaving plant and at all stops as necessary to maintain safety and regulatory compliance.
Monitor truck conditions and performance during operations and report all problems immediately or as soon as it is safe to do so. Perform minor repairs as needed. Adjust trailer breaks, and check wheel hubs for oil.
Perform periodic truck cleaning according to defined procedures.
Instruct, as directed, new and learning Class A drivers in operational procedures.
Operate Roll-off Trailer
SECONDARY DUTIES
Perform duties of a bobtail truck driver as directed by the Transportation Manager.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
EDUCATION REQUIRED: High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQD: Valid California Class A driver's license; medical/drug testing certification permitting driving of Class A vehicles.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED : One year of experience commercially driving bobtail or box trucks; Class A driving experience is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED : Familiarity with material handling techniques and proper lifting procedures.
Basic math ability.
Familiarity with truck/trailer operations.
Familiarity with Goodwill Central Coasts mission and general company policies and procedures (this may be learned on-the-job).
EQUIPMENT USED : Typical material handling and transportation equipment.
SKILLS/APTITUDES/TEMPERAMENTS :
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Ability to communicate in basic Spanish desirable.
Ability to drive a Class A vehicle in the transaction of duties. This requires a good driving record.
Ability to coordinate eye/hand/foot movement to safely maneuver in/out trucks, operate vehicle controls, walk up/down ramps, and lift/stack donations.
Ability to understand and accept directions and follow procedures.
Ability to perform routine work, adapting to change related to work flow without loss of efficiency.
Ability to maintain self-control, deal effectively with the public, and work in cooperation with co-workers.
Ability to read maps and plan route schedules based on the address/locations of scheduled tickets.
Ability to make minor truck-related repairs.
Ability to demonstrate satisfactory attendance as outlined in Company policy.
Ability to adhere to defined dress code for drivers.
Ability to adhere to safe work practices as documented in Company safety policies; ability to report safety hazards/accidents promptly to supervisor or safety committee member.
EMOTIONAL EFFORT:
The job is routine with occasional periods of high activity/demands and some short deadlines which may require overtime to complete assignments.
JOB SETTING
Work is performed outside at loading dock, donation sites, stores, schools, other non-profit businesses (including schools) and donors homes.
Work is performed outdoors, inside buildings, Trailers and vehicle cab while driving. The temperature and exposure to elements will fluctuate depending on weather conditions.
There is exposure to dust, dirt, vehicle fumes and other air borne particles. Occasionally the incumbent must handle household toxic products which are received in donations. There is regular exposure to gasoline, diesel fuel, and engine oil.
Work is complete independently but in cooperation with others. There is occasional contact with donation center personnel and public. The noise/volume will vary throughout the day with exposure to both truck engine noise, heavy equipment noise and other traffic noise and general noises at the stores, donation stations and plant.
Material handling equipment (forklift, hand truck, movable containers/racks) and trucks may be operated in or near work area.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The job requires frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs., with regular lifting up to 50 lbs. Large or heavier items (51 lbs. or more) will be moved either with assistance from another person or by using appropriate material handling equipment.
Normal or corrected talking, hearing, and seeing abilities are sufficient to perform required tasks.
Normal mobility is required to walk up/down ramps, climb in/out of trucks and trailers and to walk on uneven ground.
