About this role

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- General Accounting

- Prepare and post journal entries as required.

- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities.

- Reconcile accounts receivable, accounts payable, and assigned General Ledger accounts.

- Perform account reconciliations and resolve outstanding reconciling items promptly.

- Prepare and review accruals, prepayments, and adjusting journal entries.

- Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.

- Maintain the integrity of the General Ledger through the timely and accurate recording of financial transactions.

- Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules, where applicable.

- Review General Ledger accounts regularly and investigate unusual balances or variances.

- Review and assist in maintaining accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.

- Assist in preparing monthly management accounts and supporting schedules.

- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close activities.

- Reconciliation

- Reconcile the Bank Statements to the General Ledger.

- Ensure financial transactions are recorded accurately and timely.

- Investigate and resolve transaction discrepancies and account discrepancies.

- Review daily reconciliation and posting completed by junior finance staff, of customer payments, including cash, cheques, credit cards, debit cards, and ACH transactions, are recorded and processed accurately.

- Review account payables reconciliations and month-end accruals.

- Oversee and review daily cash counts and cash balancing procedures performed by Accounts Clerks.

- Assist with reconciling supplier statements and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

- Accounts Payable

- Review, verify, and process supplier invoices to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper authorization.

- Review payment packs including invoices/payment request form and supporting authorization for payment.

- Ensure timely and accurate processing of accounts payable transactions.

- Maintain accurate vendor records and support documentation.

- Monitor accounts payable aging and ensure payments are made within agreed terms.

- Assist with responding to vendor inquiries regarding payments and account balances to maintain positive supplier relationships.

- Assist with accounts payable accruals and month-end closing activities.

- Prepare reports relating to accounts payable balances and payment activity.

- Cash Management

- Review and reconcile night deposit slips with daily cash receipts.

- Prepare and coordinate bank deposits.

- Monitor cash receipts and disbursements to ensure accurate recording.

- Investigate and resolve cash variances promptly.

- Support cash flow monitoring and reporting activities.

- Review Cash Management transfers to fund accounts

- Financial Reporting and Analysis

- Prepare routine financial reports and account schedules.

- Prepare financial statements and management reports as required.

- Analyze financial information and identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.

- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.

- Support financial analysis projects that contribute to improved operational performance and profitability.

- Provide financial information and recommendations to management as requested.

- Review monthly accounts receivable and accounts payable reports, including aging analyses.

- Audit

- Prepare and provide accounts documentation and schedules for internal and external audits purposes.

- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and internal controls.

- Administrative and Operational Support

- Maintain organized accounting records and filing systems in accordance with company policies and audit requirements.

- Provide guidance and technical support to junior finance staff.

- Provide support and backup coverage for team members as required.

- Assist with the training and development of junior team members.

- Assist with departmental reports and special projects.

- Perform other duties assigned by the Finance Manager or Chief Financial Officer.

- Participate in departmental projects, system enhancements, and process improvement initiatives.

- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen accounting processes and internal controls.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline from an accredited institution.

- Minimum of four (4) to six (6) years of progressive accounting experience.

Preferred Qualifications

- Professional accounting designation or progress toward a designation (CPA, ACCA, CMA, or equivalent).

- Experience with Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, bank reconciliations, General Ledger support, Financial reporting and Month/Year-End Close Processes

- Experience using accounting software such as Great Plains, Applied Epic, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar systems.

- Comprehensive understanding of Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and General Ledger functions.

- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.
