Position Summary

The Dietary Aide is responsible for assisting with the preparation, service, and cleanup of meals for residents and staff while maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary dietary department. The Dietary Aide provides courteous and respectful service to residents and follows all facility policies, food safety requirements, and dietary procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Assist with preparing, portioning, and serving meals and beverages according to established menus and resident dietary needs.

- Follow special diet orders, food textures, allergies, and other resident-specific dietary requirements.

- Set up dining areas, meal trays, serving lines, and dining rooms prior to meals.

- Deliver and retrieve meal trays as directed and provide courteous assistance to residents during meal service.

- Maintain proper food temperatures and follow safe food-handling procedures.

- Wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment.

- Clean and sanitize work areas, counters, tables, floors, and other dietary areas as assigned.

- Stock food, beverages, supplies, and other dietary items as needed.

- Properly label, date, cover, store, and rotate food according to facility procedures.

- Assist with receiving and putting away food and dietary supplies.

- Dispose of trash and maintain a clean and orderly work environment.

- Follow infection-control, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.

- Report spills, equipment problems, food-safety concerns, accidents, or other issues to the supervisor.

- Maintain respectful and professional interactions with residents, families, visitors, and coworkers.

- Protect resident privacy and confidentiality at all times.

- Perform other duties as assigned by the Dietary Supervisor or Director of Dining Services.

Resident Service Expectations

The Dietary Aide is expected to:

- Treat every resident with dignity, courtesy, and respect.

- Respond promptly and appropriately to resident requests and concerns.

- Communicate resident food preferences, concerns, or changes in condition to the appropriate staff member.

- Support a pleasant and welcoming dining experience.

- Maintain resident confidentiality and follow facility policies regarding resident rights.

Qualifications

- Previous food service, dietary, restaurant, healthcare, or long-term-care experience preferred.

- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

- Ability to work cooperatively with residents, families, and members of the healthcare and dietary teams.

- Basic understanding of safe food handling and sanitation practices.

- Dependable attendance and punctuality.

- Ability to maintain a professional appearance and conduct.

Physical Requirements

The Dietary Aide must be able to:

- Stand and walk for extended periods during the work shift.

- Frequently bend, reach, push, pull, and lift.

- Safely handle food, dishes, trays, carts, and kitchen equipment.

- Lift and carry items consistent with the requirements of the position.

- Perform repetitive tasks associated with meal preparation, service, and cleaning.

- Work in a kitchen environment with exposure to heat, cold, water, cleaning products, and kitchen equipment.
