Role Title  -   Building Surveyor (12 Month Fixed Term Contract)

Location - National (flexible base location with travel required as needed)

As a Building Surveyor you will provide professional surveying services across a diverse property portfolio, ensuring that buildings are safe, compliant, functional, and maintained to a high standard. The role involves undertaking surveys, managing maintenance and refurbishment projects, preparing specifications, and providing technical advice to support operational and strategic property objectives.

The Role

- Conduct building surveys, condition assessments, defect inspections, and dilapidation reports.
- Identify building defects, diagnose causes, and recommend appropriate remedial actions.
- Prepare specifications, schedules of work, drawings, and cost estimates for repair, maintenance, and refurbishment projects.
- Manage projects through all stages, including planning, procurement, contract administration, and completion.
- Monitor project budgets, programmes, and contractor performance to ensure successful delivery.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, building regulations, health and safety requirements, and industry standards.
- Provide technical advice and guidance to internal stakeholders, clients, and contractors.
- Support planned preventative maintenance programmes and lifecycle asset management activities.
- Review and assess planning applications, construction proposals, and design information where required.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and property data systems.

Skills & Experience

- Degree in Building Surveying or a related construction discipline (or sufficient relevant experience).
- Experience undertaking building surveys and managing property-related projects.
- Strong knowledge of building construction, defects, maintenance practices, and relevant legislation.
- Understanding of contract administration and procurement processes.
- Excellent report writing, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and property management software.
- Full UK driving licence.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications

- Membership of, or progression towards, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
- Experience within public sector, commercial, healthcare, education, or residential property environments.
- Knowledge of sustainability, energy efficiency, and asset management principles.
