Lecturer/Assistant/Associate/Professor - Academic Psychiatrist – Geriatric Mental Health Inpatient and Outpatient Services, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH)
The Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto and the Department of Psychiatry of The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), is seeking a geriatric psychiatrist to provide psychiatric consultation and ongoing care to older adults over the age of 50. Duties include providing daily inpatient psychiatric care as the most responsible physician (MRP) for approximately 4-8 specialized geriatric psychiatry inpatients beds. The Geriatric Admission Units (GAU) are 2 inpatient units providing care to adults 60 years or over with dementia or age-related mental health conditions. There are 49 beds across two floors and care is provided by a multidisciplinary team with a psychiatrist MRP model. The GAU admits patients primarily from the CAMH ED and through intra- and inter-hospital transfers.
Additional duties include providing psychiatric consultation and follow up of outpatients, teaching and supervision of medical students, psychiatry residents and geriatric psychiatry residents, and collaboration in research and other academic activities. The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the rank of Lecturer, Assistant, Associate or full Professor at the University of Toronto. Effective start date is January 1, 2027 or shortly thereafter.
Extensive prior experience with care of older adults with mental health conditions and their families and caregivers is required. Additional opportunities include outreach work to transitional care, long term care, and/or other community settings, and consultation-liaison for geriatric inpatients admitted to general psychiatry units of the hospital. Expertise in treating dementia and behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia, serious and complex mental health disorders (i.e. schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and substance use disorders), and common mental health including depression and anxiety disorders is preferred. Duties may also include care for the general adult population in on-call or covering arrangements for other units of the hospital.
The successful applicant must hold an MD degree, must be Board certified or Board Eligible in Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Psychiatry Specialty and Geriatric Psychiatry Specialty, and must be eligible for medical licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The position requires an individual who has additional training or equivalent experience as well as a record of excellence in scholarship. The successful candidate will have a strong record of relevant research accomplishment.
Remuneration is in accordance with the compensation of a psychiatrist in the province of Ontario. Estimated remuneration will be in the range of $300,000 - $350,000 per annum, commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience.
