About this role
Speedwell Construction is seeking an experienced Project Accountant to join our Accounting team. This position works closely with our Project Management and preconstruction teams to manage the financial side of construction projects from award through closeout.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of construction accounting and be able to work closely with Project Managers to monitor project costs, maintain accurate and timely billing, and support financial control throughout the life of the project.
What You'll Do
- Prepare and submit monthly owner billings, using AIA G702/G703 forms and owner-specific formats
- Monitor project costs and identify budget variances in partnership with Project Managers
- Maintain accurate cost-to-complete projections
- Coordinate financial review of contract terms, exhibits, and billing provisions
- Review subcontractor billings, retainage releases, and lien waivers
- Coordinate subcontract agreements, purchase orders, and change-order documentation within Vista and Trimble Pay
- Follow up on outstanding receivables and assist with collections
- Support month-end close, WIP review, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
- Assist with forecasting, cost projections, and project cash-flow projections
- Maintain accurate, audit-ready project financial records through closeout
- Serve as a primary accounting resource for assigned Project Managers
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Two or more years of accounting experience; construction accounting experience is preferred
- Experience in supporting construction projects in the $3-$10 million range is preferred
- Understanding of construction job costing, WIP accounting, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
- Familiarity with AIA G702/G703 billing and lien waiver processes
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience with Trimble Viewpoint Vista strongly preferred; comparable construction ERP experience will be considered
- Trimble Pay or similar subcontractor payment/lien-waiver platform experience is a plus
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple active projects
- Clear, professional communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Project Managers, subcontractors, owners, and other members of the project team
