About this role

Structural steel engineer designs, analyzes, and oversees the construction and fabrication of steel frameworks for buildings, bridges, and industrial infrastructure .

Key Responsibilities

- Design & Calculations: Compute loads, stresses, and pressures to design safe steel frameworks, beams, columns, and trusses.

- Connection Detailing: Design bolted and welded joints to ensure smooth load transfer between structural members.

- Software Analysis: Utilize Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and modeling tools (like Tekla Structures, AutoCAD, STAAD, or SAP2000) to simulate structural behavior under environmental loads like wind and seismic activity.

- Code Compliance: Ensure all plans meet building regulations and industry standards such as AISC (American Institute of Steel Construction), IBC (International Building Code), AWS (American Welding Society), and OSHA.

- Collaboration & Oversight: Coordinate with architects, project managers, detailing teams, and fabrication shops, and conduct site inspections to verify structural soundness.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Education: Bachelors degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.

- Experience: 3 to 8+ years of progressive experience in structural steel design, heavy civil construction, or metal fabrication.

- Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license is typically required; a Structural Engineer (SE) license is preferred for complex or high-seismic projects.

- Key Skills: Strong foundation in mathematics, material science, blueprint reading, and technical communication.
