Job Title: Mechanical Engineer II- III
Position Overview
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, development, testing, and continuous improvement of electrical distribution products and related mechanical assemblies. This role collaborates with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Production to develop reliable, manufacturable, and cost-effective products while meeting customer specifications and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Product Design & Development
- Design mechanical components, assemblies, and enclosures for electrical distribution equipment.
- Develop detailed 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs).
- Support new product development from concept through production
- Review customer specifications and ensure design compliance.
- Evaluate materials and components for performance and manufacturability.
2. Engineering Support
- Provide technical support to Manufacturing, Production, and Quality.
- Troubleshoot product and manufacturing issues.
- Implement engineering change requests and design revisions.
- Participate in design reviews and prototype builds.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives.
3. Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain engineering drawings and revision records.
- Ensure compliance with customer requirements and applicable standards.
- Support document control and engineering change processes.
- Develop work instructions and assembly documentation.
- Participate in validation and verification activities.
4. Project Coordination
- Coordinate engineering tasks to meet project schedules.
- Collaborate with Purchasing and suppliers on technical matters.
- Support Project Managers during execution.
- Identify cost reduction and value engineering opportunities.
- Communicate technical updates to stakeholders.
5. Team Support
- Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, and Operations.
- Assist with training on new products and design changes.
- Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes.
- Support customer visits and factory acceptance testing when required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline
- Experience with electrical distribution equipment or industrial products preferred.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar CAD software.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems preferred.
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
Level Expectations Mechanical Engineer II
- Typically 5+ years of mechanical design experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Independently completes assigned product design, drawing, BOM, and engineering change work within established processes.
- Troubleshoots product and manufacturing issues and participates in design reviews, prototype builds, and validation activities
- Coordinates assigned engineering tasks and works cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Production, and Project Management.
Mechanical Engineer III
- Typically 7+ years of progressive mechanical design experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Independently leads complex product design and development work from concept through production, including technical decisions, drawings, BOMs, and design revisions.
- Leads or provides technical direction during design reviews, troubleshooting, validation, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Serves as a technical resource to other engineers and cross-functional teams and may mentor less-experienced engineers
- Takes greater ownership of project coordination, technical risk, manufacturability, cost reduction, and communication of technical updates to stakeholders.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cudahy, WI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $31.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
