The Warehouse Lead provides day-to-day directions to warehouse teammates to ensure all shipping, receiving, and material handling activities are completed safely, accurately, and on time. This role supports the warehouse supervisor by assigning work, training teammates, and maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and operational excellence. ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee daily warehouse operations including shipping, receiving, picking, and material movement
- Lead teammates in completing orders accurately and on schedule to meet customer expectations
- Train and coach warehouse teammates on safety practices, equipment operation, and standard work procedures
- Serve as the on-shift point of contact when the supervisor is unavailable, providing direction and problem-solving support
- Ensure all safety, quality, and environmental policies are followed including PPE, forklift safety, and spill response procedures
- Participate in incident reporting, root cause analysis, and follow-up actions for safety or quality concerns
- Monitor and verify accuracy of transactions in ERP or WMS systems to maintain inventory integrity
- Conduct cycle counts and support corrective actions to resolve discrepancies
- Track daily performance metrics and share results with leadership
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts and identify opportunities to improve warehouse efficiency
- Maintain organized, clean, and safe warehouse areas in compliance with 5S standards
- Communicate staffing needs, workflow updates, and operational issues to supervisors and cross-functional partners
- Support special projects or assignments as requested by leadership
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
Experience/Training:
- Minimum 3 years of warehouse or logistics experience
- At least 1–2 years of experience in a leadership, lead, or trainer role
License/Certification:
- Forklift certification required or ability to obtain within 30 days
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of warehouse operations, shipping and receiving, and inventory processes
- Ability to lead, train, and motivate teammates in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Proficiency with ERP systems such as JD Edwards and Microsoft Office
- Understanding of Lean, 5S, or continuous improvement concepts
- Commitment to safety and quality in all tasks
- 5 or more years of warehouse experience including leadership responsibility
- Experience in chemical, petroleum, or manufacturing environments
- HAZMAT shipping knowledge or certification
Physical, Mental, Environmental Demands :
- Frequent standing
- Walking, and lifting up to 60 lbs.
- May push or pull drums and pallets using material handling equipment
- Regular exposure to warehouse noise, temperature changes, and moving equipment
- PPE required including safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed shoes
