We are looking for:
Syensqo is seeking a Sr. Site Process Engineer to provide process engineering leadership and technical expertise to the chemical manufacturing operation at the Cytec Canada Inc (a member of the Syensqo Group) Niagara Falls, Ontario site. The successful candidate will serve as a senior technical resource for process safety, process design, operational excellence, manufacturing optimization, capital project development and execution, and new product introductions. This role works closely with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and Research & Innovation (R&I) to improve safety, reliability, quality, productivity, and sustainability performance while ensuring regulatory compliance and manufacturing excellence.
We Count on you to:
- Lead and support process improvement initiatives focused on Manufacturing Excellence, OEE improvement, process safety, variable cost reduction, quality improvement, reliability, and sustainability.
- Develop and maintain Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), process design packages, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and engineering documentation.
- Perform process engineering calculations including mass and energy balances, hydraulic evaluations, pressure relief evaluations, equipment sizing, and process simulations.
- Develop specifications for new or existing equipment and instrumentation based upon specific manufacturing, process, and project requirements.
- Lead and support FEL/stage-gate capital projects from concept development and process design through detailed engineering, commissioning, startup, and post-startup optimization.
- Lead and support Management of Change (MOC) activities, Pre-job Hazard Assessments (PJHA) and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR).
- Lead or facilitate Process Hazard Analysis (PHAs) and other process studies as required, and drive closure of resulting recommendations.
- Ensure process design, project execution, and operations support activities comply with Syensqo HSE requirements, TSSA requirements, and applicable federal, provincial, and local regulations.
- Troubleshoot plant operating and reliability issues and collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, and Control Engineers to identify sustainable solutions and improve process performance.
- Lead and support incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action implementation.
- Utilize process data analytics and process historian tools to identify opportunities for improved yield, energy efficiency, asset utilization, and operational reliability.
- Work with Research & Innovation (R&I), Technology Development, and Operations teams to scale new processes from laboratory or pilot plant to production scale.
- Provide technical mentoring and coaching to junior engineers, interns, and operations engineers.
- Work with multidisciplinary teams to deliver capital and process improvement projects safely, on schedule, and within budget.
- Participate in development of long-term assets, reliability, and process safety improvement strategies for the site.
You will bring:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in chemical manufacturing, including demonstrated leadership of process improvement, process safety, and capital project initiatives.
- Experience supporting continuous and/or batch manufacturing processes involving high-pressure systems and hazardous materials (pyrophoric, flammable, and toxic substances).
- Strong knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM), Management of Change (MOC), Process Hazard Analysis (PHAs), incident investigation, root cause analysis, and risk management practices.
- Expertise with pressure relief device revalidation, pressure relief system design, and overpressure mitigation studies.
- Hands-on experience with Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, and other process simulation software.
- Demonstrated success leading and implementing process improvement, HSE, manufacturing excellence, and capital projects.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams to execute capital and operational improvement projects.
- Knowledge of distributed control systems (DCS), process control strategies, instrumentation, alarm management, interlocks, and safety instrumented systems (SIS).
- Working knowledge of process historians such as OSI PI or equivalent systems.
- Knowledge of applicable industry standards, codes, and process safety practices (API, ASME, NFPA, CSA, and CCPS).
- Strong understanding of Ontario regulatory requirements and compliance obligations, including TSSA regulations, pressure equipment and piping requirements, refrigeration systems, operating engineer regulations, environmental compliance, and process safety management programs.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and technical writing skills.
You will get:
- The Canadian base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this position is $118,710 to $141,133 per year. Since actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted base salary range. Total compensation for this role also includes bonus and/or other incentives.
