Locations: Candor, NC | Richmond, VA
Job Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire
Starting Salary: $46,800/year — higher salary available depending on experience
Position Overview
We are hiring a Railcar Repair & Welding Technician to support railroad equipment maintenance and emergency repair operations. This hands-on position involves repairing, fabricating, and welding freight railcars while following railroad safety and quality requirements.
Because this is a 24/7 emergency response operation, employees must be available for call-outs, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

What You'll Do

- Repair and maintain freight railcars using welding and fabrication techniques.

- Perform railcar fabrication and structural repairs according to safety and quality requirements.

- Check vehicles, tools, materials, and equipment before and after assignments.

- Attend job briefings and follow established railroad safety procedures.

- Work with crew members to complete repair assignments safely and efficiently.

- Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean, organized, and properly stocked.

- Complete job reports and other required documentation accurately.

- Maintain professional communication with coworkers and customers.

- Follow company procedures, railroad regulations, and all applicable safety requirements.

Qualifications

- AWS welding certification required.

- Hands-on welding and fabrication experience.

- Knowledge of freight car components and railroad repair practices.

- Familiarity with the AAR Field Manual .

- Knowledge of Blue Flag Law and FRA safety standards .

- Strong communication and teamwork skills.

- Ability to follow detailed safety procedures and work professionally.

- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.

- Valid driver's license.

- Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications, including:

CPR

- First Aid

- E-Rail Safe

- CSX On-Track Safety

Work Requirements

- Participate in a 24/7 emergency response rotation .

- Available for nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-outs.

- Travel frequently and work at changing job locations.

- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

- Stand and walk for extended periods on uneven surfaces.

- Bend, lift, carry, and perform other physically demanding tasks.

- Regularly lift up to 50 lbs. ; heavier items require assistance.

- Work extended hours when required by operational needs.
