Job Summary

The Technician, Production Mechanical PO8 acts as a leading member of a team, working with other members in an attempt to perform both preventative maintenance and install, maintain, troubleshoot, overhaul and repair stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment. In addition, training, coach and oversee more junior Technicians to assist junior technicians to maintain, troubleshoot, set-up, plan, install and rebuild production and associated machinery.

Job Responsibilities

- Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on industrial machinery, including production equipment, pumps, compressors, electric motors, VFDs, and other manufacturing systems.

- Diagnose and resolve mechanical issues efficiently to reduce production downtime.

- Cleaning, lubricating and performing other routine maintenance work on equipment.

- Align machines and equipment during installation,

- Adhere to all workplace safety regulations and ensure machinery is operating safely. Implement and follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures as required.

- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders and parts inventory.

- Work closely with production, engineering, and quality to resolve issues and improve processes.

- Perform basic welding and fabrication to repair or modify equipment as needed.

- Recommend and implement improvements to enhance equipment reliability and productivity.

- Internally train production team members on equipment safety.

- Safely operate powered mobile equipment including forklifts and hoists

- Perform other related projects and duties as assigned.

- Read SOP’s, blueprints, diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.

- Install, align, dismantle and move stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment, such as pumps, fans, tanks, conveyors, furnaces and generators according to layout plans using hand and power tools.

- Operate hoisting and lifting devices such as cranes, jacks.

- Inspect and examine machinery and equipment to detect and investigate irregularities and malfunctions.

- Install, troubleshoot and maintain power transmission, vacuum, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and programmable logic controls.

- Work closely with Manager & Specialist Maintenance, to ensure adequate level of resource and help coordinate maintenance activities.

- Assist in resolving technical service issues with Production, Quality, Engineering, etc., and formulates recommendations to resolve matters which are beyond existing SOPs.

- Act as mentor/teacher to junior Technicians in training, troubleshooting, repair and rebuild of production and associated machinery.

- Ensure that all work is performed in a full compliance with Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP’s), SOP’s and in accordance with established Safety Standards.

- Recommend changes to designs, drawings and modifications of equipment or parts as required in conjunction with engineering and maintenance.

- Keep abreast of all changes and advances in company policies and new technology.

- Work independently with minimal supervision.

- Possess an in-depth understanding of equipment enabling you to be a subject matter expert for the purpose of investigations, audits, training, or otherwise as required.

- There may be the occasional requirement for some situational leadership opportunities for projects or troubleshooting exercises, as required.

Job Requirements

- Education

Secondary School Graduate; Minimum of Grade 12.

- Industrial Mechanic/Millwright level or equivalent industrial mechanical trade or certification in the Province of Ontario.

- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

In-depth knowledge of mechanics and machine shop practices.

- In-depth knowledge of Electrical, Hydraulics and Pneumatics.

- Knowledge of GMP, as related to pharmaceuticals.

- Knowledge of Quick Change Over Techniques and PLC would be an asset.

- Able to lead, collaborate with others.

- Able to train and pass on knowledge to junior technicians.

- Good oral and written communication skills.

- Good analytical and presentation skills.

- Proactive and self-motivated.

- Able to work any shift, including evenings and weekends.

- Experience

Minimum 10 Year’s experience in a similar role within the pharmaceutical or consumer goods industry

- Licensed in one or more of the following trades, Industrial Mechanical, Machinist, Tool and Die, Industrial Electrician, Electro-Mechanical Controls, or other technical certification.
