School Cafeteria Cashier
Reports To: Cafeteria Kitchen Manager
Summary
The School Cafeteria Cashier supports daily meal service operations by confirming lunch
orders, operating the cafeteria register, assisting customers with purchases, and maintaining the
cafeteria market area. This position helps create a welcoming, efficient, and positive dining
experience for students, staff, and visitors by providing friendly and helpful customer service.
The Cafeteria Cashier works closely with the Kitchen Manager and cafeteria team to ensure
lunch service runs smoothly and accurately.

It is desirable that church employees regularly attend worship services (virtually or physically).
By doing so, they will be more in touch with Village Baptist Church’s life, activities, and patterns.
Responsibilities

- Confirm lunch orders for students, teachers, and staff according to established cafeteria procedures

- Operate the cafeteria register and accurately process purchases of extra food, beverages, snacks, Grab & Go items, and other market offerings

- Greet students, staff, and visitors in a friendly, energetic, and helpful manner

- Inform customers of available lunch, extra, Grab & Go, and market options and answer questions as needed

- Introduce and communicate new cafeteria and market items to students and staff as directed

- Help maintain smooth and efficient customer flow throughout lunch periods

- Monitor the cafeteria market area throughout lunch service to ensure products are stocked, organized, and presented appropriately

- Stock coolers, cabinets, snacks, beverages, and other market items before lunch service begins

- Restock market items between lunch groups as needed

- Monitor inventory levels during service and communicate low-stock or high-demand items to the Kitchen Manager

- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming cashier and market area throughout lunch service

- Close the register at the conclusion of the lunch period according to established procedures

- Complete and turn in lunch reports, counts, and applicable notes to the Kitchen Manager at the end of each lunch service

- Communicate register discrepancies, unusual transactions, inventory concerns, or other service issues to the Kitchen Manager

- Close down and clean the cashier and market area at the end of lunch service

- Ensure all designated market coolers, cabinets, and storage areas are properly close and locked before leaving the area

- Assist with stocking, cleanup, and other cafeteria responsibilities as needed to support the team

- Perform other duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager or Director of Cafeteria Operations

Qualifications

Qualifications

- Minimum educational requirement: High School Diploma or equivalent

- Experience in cashiering, customer service, food service, retail, or a related field preferred

- Friendly, energetic, positive, and service-oriented attitude

- Dependable and punctual

- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy during busy lunch periods

- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment

- Comfortable interacting with students, staff, and visitors

- Strong communication and teamwork skills

- Willingness to learn cafeteria procedures, register systems, menu offerings, and market products

- Ability to take initiative in stocking, organizing, and maintaining the market area

- Willingness to assist in a variety of cafeteria duties as needed

- Must successfully pass all required background screenings for employment in a school setting

- Physical Requirements

- Ability to stand for extended periods

- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds

- Ability to work in a kitchen and cafeteria environment, including noise and frequent movement

- Ability to bend, reach, stock, and move products and supplies throughout the cashier and market areas

Work Schedule

- Monday–Friday, approximately 10:00 AM–2:00 PM during the school year, 10-month employee

- Follows the Village Christian Academy academic calendar

- Required to attend applicable training, staff meetings, and professional development activities

- Additional hours may be required before the start of the school year, after the end of the school year, or for special events as approved by the Director of Cafeteria Operations
