Embedded Software Developer (Linux BSP & Platform Development)

Location: Ottawa, ON (On-Site)
## About the Role
We're seeking an Embedded Software Developer with experience working close to hardware, operating systems, and low-level embedded software. This is an opportunity to join a team developing next-generation embedded platforms used in connected and intelligent systems. In this role, you will contribute to Linux-based platform software, board bring-up activities, device driver development, bootloader integration, and hardware/software enablement. You'll collaborate with experienced embedded engineers to support both current products and future platform development initiatives. If you have experience with Embedded Linux, ARM-based processors, BSP development, device drivers, board bring-up, Yocto, Buildroot, or U-Boot, we'd like to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and enhance Linux-based Board Support Packages (BSPs).
- Support board bring-up and hardware enablement activities.
- Develop and maintain low-level software and device drivers.
- Contribute to bootloader development and platform initialization.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software integration issues.
- Work closely with hardware, firmware, and systems engineering teams.
- Debug complex embedded platform issues and support product validation activities.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and technical problem-solving initiatives.
- Contribute to future platform and product development efforts.

Required Qualifications

- 4+ years of embedded software development experience.
- Strong programming skills in C.
- Experience working with Embedded Linux.
- Experience with BSP development, board bring-up, or platform integration.
- Experience developing or modifying device drivers.
- Experience working with ARM-based embedded platforms.
- Familiarity with UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, or similar communication interfaces.
- Experience using Git or other source control systems.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.

Nice-To-Have Qualifications

- U-Boot or bootloader development experience.
- Experience with Yocto or Buildroot.
- Linux kernel development experience.
- Device Tree (DTS/DTB) experience.
- QNX experience.
- Experience using JTAG, oscilloscopes, or logic analyzers.
- Exposure to secure boot or embedded security concepts.
- Experience developing products in automotive, telecom, aerospace, defense, industrial, or networking industries.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Ottawa, ON.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $67.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
