About this role

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

A Casual Assistant plays a crucial part in how Fresh Gallery Ōtara & OMAC operate and how visitors experience art & events. In this role, you will be essential to connecting with the community, safeguarding valuable artworks, supporting artists, and helping maintain a welcoming and well-run art & events environment. You also assist the Gallery Coordinator, Programmer, and Administration staff, with the day-to-day operations of both Fresh Gallery Ōtara & OMAC, ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes.

Ultimately, your role is about creating meaningful connections—engaging with the Ōtara and Papatoetoe communities and helping them experience and appreciate the artists, artworks, music, events and creative activities taking place across both facilities.

This is a casual role and comes with some awesome opportunities including:

- Creating engaging and interactive art and crafts programs at FRESH & OMAC

Ngā kawenga matua: Key responsibilities

- Assist with the delivery of exhibitions, create programmes and events in Council’s arts and culture facilities including, openings, public events, and school holidays.

- Assist with the delivery of public talks, classes and workshops (Saturdays)

- Assist with the delivery of events as required, including hospitality and hosting

- Provide walkthrough tours of the exhibitions by interacting with visitors and the local community

- Assist with exhibition documentation and social media

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

- Communication and Interpersonal Skills

- Administrative and Social Media Skills

- Organisation skills and ability to manage tasks efficiently

- Passion and knowledge about the arts.

- Ability to collaborate and design community art programs

A current, full New Zealand divers licence is essential for this role.

The salary for this role is $29.90 per hour
