Position Description
This role supports the financial governance and performance management of the Transmission Asset Owner (TAO) business under the PR6 Price Review framework. The successful candidate will play a key role in monitoring, analysing, and reporting on PR6 expenditure, funding allowances, forecasts, and actual performance, ensuring robust financial oversight across a significant portfolio of transmission investments.
Operating within a highly regulated environment, the role will provide detailed financial analysis and performance insights to support decision-making, business planning, regulatory reporting, and portfolio governance. Working closely with Finance, Programme Delivery, Regulatory, and Project teams, the role will help ensure that expenditure remains aligned with regulatory allowances and that emerging financial risks and opportunities are identified and managed proactively.
The role requires a commercially minded individual with strong analytical capability, capable of translating complex financial and portfolio data into clear insights for senior management and regulatory stakeholders. The successful candidate will support the delivery of accurate forecasts, performance reporting, and evidence-based financial analysis to underpin the successful delivery of the PR6 programme.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyse PR6 capital and operational expenditure, tracking actual spend against approved allowances, budgets, and forecasts.
- Prepare financial performance reports and dashboards, providing clear analysis of trends, variances, risks, and opportunities across the transmission portfolio.
- Support the development, challenge, and consolidation of periodic forecasts, ensuring assumptions are robust, evidenced, and aligned with programme delivery expectations.
- Perform detailed cost analysis of major transmission projects and work programmes, identifying key cost drivers and emerging financial risks.
- Support the preparation of financial inputs to regulatory submissions, including Business Plan Questionnaire (BPQ), Delivery Obligation reporting, and other CRU reporting requirements.
- Assist in the management of regulatory funding allowances, ensuring expenditure is accurately allocated, monitored, and reported.
- Work closely with project managers, finance business partners, and programme teams to validate financial information and improve forecasting accuracy.
- Support governance reviews and assurance activities by providing financial analysis and evidence to support decision-making.
- Develop and maintain reporting tools, processes, and datasets that improve transparency, consistency, and efficiency in financial and regulatory reporting.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen financial governance, reporting capability, and portfolio performance management across the Transmission business.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential
- A primary degree in Finance, Quantity Surveying, Engineering or related discipline.
- Relevant experience in financial analysis, cost management, forecasting, or performance reporting.
- Experience preparing reports and presenting insights to stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other reporting tools.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively across teams and manage competing priorities.
- Full clean driving licence.
Desirable
- Familiarity with CRU’s PR6 framework, AIMF, regulatory reporting requirements, or funding governance processes..
- Experience working with or alongside organisations such as EirGrid, CRU, or other regulatory or delivery bodies.
- Experience with SAP, Power BI, Power Query, or similar financial and reporting systems
- Experience in Transmission Infrastructure and understanding of the IA and Licence Obligations.
Location
Base location is flexible and will be agreed following the appointment of the successful candidate. This is a national role and there will be a requirement to attend meetings with stakeholders and ESB Senior Management in various locations nationwide but primarily Dublin & Midlands.
Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week . All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.

Salary
€71,00 to €84,000 per annum
