Regulatory Advisor - Corporate & Funds

To work alongside qualified lawyers in the Guernsey corporate, investment funds and regulatory team in:

• primarily a research, comprehension and output support role, helping the team meet demand for legal and regulatory work by combining strong research skills, the ability to comprehend and apply research, and effective use of AI and other knowledge tools to provide high-quality legal and regulatory research, clear and reliable written outputs and practical support across a broad range of legal and regulatory matters

• where necessary, support on transactional matters and matters related to The International Stock Exchange (TISE)

• where necessary, support on the production of client advice including both standard form memoranda of advice and bespoke regulatory advice

• support in the production of know-how and thought leadership documents

Key Responsibilities

- Undertake legal and regulatory research in support of qualified lawyers, drawing on legal and regulatory resources and collating complex information into clear, accurate and structured outputs
- Assist with drafting and amending legal and regulatory advice memoranda and documents
- Assist with the completion of online and other applications where necessary, including applications to the Guernsey Financial Services Commission and TISE
- Review complex documentation and identify relevant issues, ensuring work is conducted in line with legal, regulatory, fiduciary and internal governance frameworks, while contributing to the team’s work on relevant regulatory and legal matters and developing an understanding of the corporate, investment funds and regulatory areas
- Make effective, day-to-day use of AI as a knowledge tool by framing precise queries, identifying missing information, and critically reviewing and testing AI-generated outputs against primary sources before applying them to produce reliable support and internal know-how
- Share knowledge with the immediate and potentially wider teams in know-how sessions
- Support innovation, technology and business tools, including online legal databases, by trialling and adopting new initiatives
- Assist with team-specific financials and matter management and contribute to producing fee proposals
- Act as a line of communication between fee earners, clients and professional advisers, delivering clear, structured and precise written and verbal communication
- Deliver excellent service internally and externally

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

• High standard of attention to detail and a proven capacity for high accuracy written work

• Excellent drafting, written and verbal communication skills

• Strong analytical skills, able to comprehend and collate complex regulatory, governance and fiduciary information and apply regulation to specific circumstances

• Appetite to learn and master complex legal and regulatory work, and to keep up to date with new legislation and developments in the local market

• Risk awareness and the ability to spot, identify and follow through issues, recognising nuance and risk

• Confident, critical use of AI as a knowledge tool — framing precise queries, identifying missing information, and critically reviewing and challenging AI-generated output against primary sources, together with familiarity with, or willingness to learn, online legal databases

• Effective time management, with the ability to manage a varied workload and meet competing deadlines

• Ability to use own initiative, take instructions, and the confidence to challenge and check understanding

Academic and professional record
Strong academic credentials, including a university degree or equivalent qualification. A postgraduate qualification would be advantageous. Candidates should also demonstrate a strong professional track record, ideally gained within a legal or similarly rigorous professional environment.
