Embedded Software & System Test Engineer

As an Embedded Software & System Test Engineer at ISISPACE, you will help ensure that our embedded software, hardware and satellite systems work together as intended. You will develop test software and/or use automated tests and test environments and support the integration and verification of satellite systems throughout the development process.

You will work hands-on with real hardware and software, investigate test failures and work closely with embedded software, electronics, systems engineers to identify root causes and implement solutions. You will also have the opportunity to improve and scale our automated testing and verification approach as our missions and products evolve.

Specific tasks and responsibilities include:

In this position, you typically:

· Design, develop and maintain automated tests for embedded software and integrated satellite systems.

· Develop test software, scripts, simulators and test infrastructure using Python, C/C++ and other appropriate tools.

· Test how embedded software, electronics, communication interfaces and ground systems work together.

· Perform software, integration and system-level testing on engineering models and flight hardware.

· Develop and use Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test environments where appropriate.

· Analyse logs, telemetry, test results and system behaviour to identify and investigate failures.

· Debug failures and work with software, electronics and systems engineers to determine root causes and verify fixes.

· Translate software and system requirements into test cases and verification procedures.

· Develop and maintain regression tests as software and hardware evolve.

· Prepare test procedures and document test results, anomalies and verification evidence.

· Contribute to improving and scaling our automated testing and verification approach.

· Support system integration and verification activities throughout the development and test lifecycle of satellite missions.

Requirements

What do we require from you?

· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related field.

· 2+ years of relevant experience in embedded software, system testing, system integration or a related engineering role.

· Strong programming skills in Python

· Experience developing automated tests or test frameworks.

· Practical experience working with embedded systems and/or real hardware.

· Good understanding of software development, debugging and version control practices.

· Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.

· Ability to work effectively with engineers from different disciplines.

· Energetic team player with a positive and open mindset.

· Strong sense of responsibility and ownership.

· Excellent communication skills in English.

Nice to haves

· Experience with embedded Linux or RTOS environments.

· Experience with programming in C/C++.

· Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) or Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) testing.

· Experience with automated testing frameworks such as pytest or RobotFramework

· Experience with setting up Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.

· Experience with communication interfaces such as CAN, UART, SPI, I2C, Ethernet or SpaceWire.

· Experience with telemetry and telecommand systems.

· Experience with satellite or other aerospace systems.

· Experience with robotics, automotive, avionics, defence, industrial or other complex embedded systems.

· Experience with system integration and verification.

· Experience with ground-support equipment, simulators or EGSE.

· Familiarity with ECSS or other relevant engineering standards.

Experience in the space industry is a plus, but not required.
