Job Summary- The CNC Door Operator is responsible for operating, programming, and maintaining CNC machining equipment used to fabricate commercial and architectural doors. This role ensures precise machining of hardware preps, hinge pockets, lock cutouts, lite openings, and other door modifications according to shop drawings, hardware schedules, and customer specifications. The CNC Door Operator plays a key role in maintaining production accuracy, efficiency, and quality standards.
The CNC Door Operator is responsible and accountable for-
- Operate CNC door machining centers to process wood, or composite doors according to production requirements.
- Load, secure, and align doors on the CNC table to ensure accurate machining.
- Input or adjust CNC programs for hinge preps, lock preps, lite kits, vision panels, and custom hardware.
- Verify correct tooling, bit selection, and cutting parameters for each job.
- Inspect finished doors for accuracy, quality, and compliance with specifications.
- Perform routine maintenance on CNC equipment, including cleaning, lubrication, and tool changes.
- Troubleshoot machine errors, alignment issues, or programming discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate production records, job travelers, and quality documentation.
- Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Collaborate with production leads, project managers, and hardware specialists to resolve machining questions or discrepancies.
Experience and other requirements-
- Experience operating CNC machinery in a manufacturing or millwork environment (door industry experience preferred).
- Ability to read and interpret commercial door and hardware documentation , including: Hardware sets
- Door schedules
- Machining templates
- Shop drawings
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machining principles.
- Familiarity with tooling, cutting speeds, and material handling.
- Ability to use measuring tools such as calipers, tape measures, squares, and gauges.
- Basic computer skills for CNC interface operation.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Knowledge of wood door construction.
- Understanding of hardware prep standards.
- Forklift certification or experience using material-handling equipment.
