Registered Nurse, full-time day, Sexual Health Center, Atlantic Health Morristown Medical Center

The Registered Nurse in the Sexual Health Center provides direct patient care, coordinates treatment plans, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to ensure quality outcomes, maintains clinical documentation, adheres to safety protocols, and supports patient education and advocacy. The RN will work partly in the ambulatory fixed site at 200 South Street in Morristown, partly in the Morristown Medical Center Emergency Department, and partly in the community in an Atlantic Mobile Health vehicle and at community-based organizations through Northern New Jersey including, but not limited to, Morris, Sussex, and Passaic Counties.

The Sexual Health Department in a small, interdisciplinary team that primarily promotes public health initiatives funded through grants and awards. Public health initiatives include prevention, testing, and treatment for HIV, HCV, and sexually transmitted infections; harm reduction health programming such as preventative care, acute and chronic disease management, and wound care; education and counseling to promote safer sex and use strategies.

Principal Accountabilities:

1. Patient Assessment: Perform systematic, comprehensive, and accurate assessments. Assess potential discharge needs during the initial assessment process. Administers medications to patients and monitor effects of medications and treatments and report adverse effects in a timely manner. Assess patient for pain level. Provide appropriate intervention, reassessment, and documentation. Systematically monitor the maintenance of protocols, standards, and plans of care. Plans and provides individualized patient education.

2. Clinical Skills: Perform nursing-related skills and activities competently. Analyze situations critically. Maintain complete and accurate documentation. Identify and document realistic long and short-term goals. Complete interdisciplinary plan of care record. Participate in interdisciplinary rounds. Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and revise the plan of care as needed. Recognize and evaluate patient and family responses to therapies and nursing interventions.

3: Professional Skills: Communicate clearly and effectively with all members of the healthcare team. Complete hand-off communication and give complete reports to other caregivers. Demonstrate critical thinking and time management skills necessary for effective patient care. Assume responsibility and accountability for the safe nursing care of assigned patients. Delegate responsibilities appropriately to others. Conducts regular patient rounds to ensure safety and enhance patient experience. Actively participates in daily interdisciplinary huddles to support coordinated care. Utilizes approved clinical communication tools in accordance with organizational standards.

4. Quality and Safety: Adhere to OSHA, Joint Commission, Standards of Nursing Practice supported by NJ BON, professional association, ANA Code of Ethics & Scope of Standards and Practice NJ Board of Health, and hospital standards. Use two patient identifiers and check allergies before medication administration. Follow hand washing protocols and maintain isolation precautions. Properly use and store equipment, checking expiration dates. Demonstrate leadership and function as a resource/mentor. Actively participates in Shared Governance.

5. Outreach and Education: Participate in local, state, and national public health planning initiatives. Assist with monitoring and evaluation of grant-funded projects. Provide education to communities, patients, and families in accordance with grant requirements. Attend external meetings and field-based outreach events.

6. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Requirements:

- Available to work at least one evening per week and one Saturday per month
- Independent travel to field-based locations and trainings or meetings within the State of New Jersey (business mileage reimbursement provided)
- Ability to work indoor, outdoor, and mobile flexible environments
- Lifting/carrying up to 50lb

Required:
1. Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program.
2. Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse.
3. BLS certification.

Preferred:
1. Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
a. All ASN must complete their BSN studies within five years of their start date.
2. Master’s degree in nursing or related field.
3. 1+ year of experience in Nursing or relevant area.
4. ACLS certification.

Desired skills:

- Proficient in an electronic health record, preferably EPIC
- Work or life experience with underserved populations (e.g. LGBTQ+, people with substance use disorder, low income or homeless, people with HIV or STI)
- Empathetic listening and verbal/nonverbal communication skills
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
