Controls Systems Engineer

We're looking for a Controls Systems Design Engineer to join our elite Factory Infrastructure Engineering team in Austin, TX, the epicenter of some of the most ambitious construction projects on the planet. You won't just be designing control systems. You'll be shaping the backbone of facilities that produce the Model Y, Cybertruck, and Cybercab, powering next-generation AI training centers that will redefine artificial intelligence, helping bring TeraFab to life as the largest chip manufacturing facility in the world, and building the infrastructure that will manufacture Optimus, Tesla's revolutionary humanoid robot poised to transform the global workforce forever.

- Architect the nervous system of tomorrow's factories by sizing and selecting cutting-edge instruments and control devices that bring complex mechanical and process systems to life, including HVAC, Chilled Water, Compressed Air, and beyond, across vehicle, robotics, chip fabrication, and AI data center facilities
- Own the procurement process end-to-end by initiating instrument datasheets, building RFQ packages, and leading technical bid evaluations to source the best controls technology on the market
- Set the standard for quality by collaborating with world-class vendors and contractors to review designs and ensure every deliverable meets Tesla's uncompromising engineering and documentation standards
- Design networks that never go down by contributing to the development of scalable, plant-wide, high-reliability control network architectures built for the demands of 24/7 mission-critical operations across some of the most advanced facilities ever built
- Bridge the gap between hardware and software by working hand-in-hand with HMI developers and programmers to optimize data exchange and create intuitive, powerful operator interfaces
- Be the engineering backbone on the ground by supporting construction teams and contractors in executing complex scopes of work with precision and efficiency
- Bring designs to life in 2D and 3D by generating detailed construction drawings that clearly define installation scope and set the team up for flawless execution

- Degree in Engineering or equivalent hands-on experience
- 3+ years of experience as a Controls, Instrumentation, or Applications Engineer working with automation and/or electromechanical systems
- Sharp ability to read and interpret mechanical, process, and plumbing drawings to accurately size and select flow, pressure, and temperature sensors
- Proficiency with Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD so you can translate a vision into a buildable design
- Hands-on experience configuring industrial control networks including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, and Serial Communication
- Deep knowledge of industrial process and manufacturing equipment, including safety systems, with proficiency in Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or Beckhoff platforms
