Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position): Lead a variety of outdoor trips/activities that are put on by the Recreation department throughout the academic year. These activities include rock climbing, kayaking, canoeing, backpacking, hiking, caving, camping, etc. Applicants must submit current resume to be considered.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Transport participants during trips using campus fleet or rented vehicles

- Conduct pre-trip meetings to review itineraries, expectations, safety information, and required equipment.

- Communicate with participants regarding inclement weather or other risk factors

- Prioritize participant safety by conducting risk assessments, following established emergency procedures, and making sound decisions in changing conditions.

- Inspect, prepare, transport, and maintain outdoor equipment before and after trips.

- Create a meal plan for extended overnight/day trips

- Facilitate group dynamics and create a welcoming environment for participants.

- Must lead at least four trips during the academic year (one must be during an academic break e.g. fall break, J-term break, spring break)

Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills)

- Certified to drive campus fleet or willingness to obtain within two weeks

- Group facilitation and/or public speaking experience

- Wilderness First Aid Certified or willingness to obtain within the first semester of employment

Physical and Environmental Factors:

This position requires crouching, kneeling/crawling, stooping, twisting/pivoting, climbing/balancing, reaching overhead, grasping/handling, pushing/pulling, lifting objects up to 50 lbs., and driving to perform the essential functions. It also requires exposure to loud noise, respiratory factors, chemicals, wet or humid conditions indoors, extreme cold, extreme heat, and heights or cramped quarters, as well as rare exposure to vibrations, and proximity hazards to perform the essential functions. Protective equipment is required to perform some essential functions. Candidates must possess the ability to safely perform the physical work required of all duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
