CBVRCE 2026 CUPE-1426 Casual Mechanics - Truck & Transport

The Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education calls for applications for casual employment in the following CUPE classification:

Position: Casual Mechanic (Apprentices will be accepted)

Work Site: Transportation - Sydney and Baddeck

Department: Operations

Work Term: Casual on-call basis

Rate of Pay: $26.02 to 34.72 per hour (depending on qualifications)

Qualifications and Training:

The following are the minimum qualifications:

- Journeyperson Bus and Transport Mechanic or Journeyperson Truck and Transport Mechanic is required

- Grade 12 education or an acceptable equivalent

- Experience in truck and transport mechanics is preferred

- Demonstrated ability to do work as required in the posted position, and the ability to work with others and provide assistance

- WHMIS

- Reliable and conscientious

- Acceptable record of attendance in prior employment

- Must have a valid Driver's License

ROLE:
Perform work up to and including journey level trades in motor vehicle maintenance and repairs for school buses and other fleet vehicles.

Responsibilities:

- Perform all mechanical duties as assigned in accordance with approved standards, the laws of the Province of Nova Scotia and School Board Polices and Procedures;

- Keep accurate record of vehicle inspections and maintenance;

- Complete all assigned work orders, and record hours and materials used;

- Keep work area clean and safe;

- Maintain the safe operation of all equipment used in the bus garage;

- Conduct road tests as required;

- Other related duties as assigned.
